Singer and guitarist John Hinshelwood is well known as a singer / songwriter on the Scottish Country / Folk / Americana circuit, and in the 80s and 90s was a member of pioneering contemporary country band Honest Sam and the Dealers. Bass player Tim Clarke has been the linchpin of the many versions of Hinshelwood's band over the last decade, in addition to having played with innumerable bands on the Glasgow Rock and Blues scene, including a spell with Fraser Speirs' Road Rockets. Drummer Dick Drake played with Tim in The Road Rockets and with John in Honest Sam and is currently one of the most sought after drummers in Glasgow. Edinburgh-based guitar player Iain Barbour, a member of Country-Rock combo The Sunshine Delay, is currently gaining a reputation for his tasteful playing and has accompanied many leading Americana acts, including Jason Ringenberg and Tandy. Residing in Ayrshire, Malcolm McMaster is one of the finest and most in demand pedal steel players in Scotland, and recently played with John Miller and The Radio Sweethearts. The most recent recruit to the band is vocalist Sandra Gellatly, a Canadian session singer currently residing in Glasgow.
THE CITY SINNERS
THE LIFE, TIMES & MUSIC OF GRAM PARSONS
Shows booked so far are:
The Jam House, Edinburgh (11th Sep)
venue TBA, Ballinluig, Pitlochry(27th Sep)
Gram Parsons virtually invented "Country Rock" when he joined The Byrds in 1968 and hijacked their musical direction. His death in 1973, at the tender age of 26, cut short a life during which he had been instrumental in breaking down the barriers between Country, Soul and Rock music. His legacy also paved the way for acts such as The Eagles, Emmylou Harris and many other Country-influenced acts, who went on to gain mainstream acceptance well beyond the confines of the Country music scene.
Named after the Parsons song “Sin City”, The City Sinners are more than just another "showbiz" type tribute act: their passion for the music, along with their instrumental and vocal skills, ensures that this is an entertaining, high quality night out. The show features songs written by Parsons alongside other material closely associated with his brief career together with some informative linking narrative on his life and times.
Parson's time with The Byrds, The Flying Burrito Brothers, and his two solo albums produced numerous ground-breaking songs; many of these are featured in The City Sinners' show.

You know the people that say utopia isn't possible have already given up. Living sustainably in balance with our environment and food sources will bring us the freedom to live in harmony, and provide the opportunity for all to excel in their efforts, dreams and life path. Utopia is not only possible but it is the very essence that should guide our dreams and vision for ourselves and with each other. It is the horizon we should all strive for everyone and every nation. Anything short of that will lead us astray.
