The City Snapshot is the creative outlet for myself, Warner Watkins. After listening to Punk Rock music for well over ten years, I decided to actually start making my own form of honest, and very sincere music. The original plan was to just do this acoustic project after I moved to Atlanta for school and started feeling interested in actually writing again, and it just kinda spiraled into this. The idea behind it all is that I feel that what I have to say is important, and I want as many people to experience it with me. I hope you find something here that excites you, that makes you angry, and may even make you question something. After settling into school, I took a job at a sneaker boutique in the area to pay for studio time. I did about three different sessions over the course of six months to make sure I captured what I wanted to on tape, and then I released it. For free. I hope that you enjoy.
We Can Breathe Underwater is a concept I developed from one of my favorite authors and a great inspiration, the author F. Scott Fitzgerald. I remember being young and reading a quote of his that said "Good writing is swimming underwater and holding your breathe". That imagery was very interesting to me, because the idea of drowning can mean alot of things. You can drown in your sorrows, in your excesses, even in your own ideals. When I was about 16, I wrote a short story entitled "Anchored Deep in the Misery, We Can Breathe Underwater". I actually used the theme a little bit for Spilling Blood. So the whole idea of We Can Breathe Underwater to me is about the idea that no matter what you're going through in life you can rise above it and swim, no matter how deep you are in over your head. It also stands for the fact that just because art has substance doesn't mean that it can't be accesible or the fact that one should be turned away from it due to the fact that it may take multiple listens to fully understand.
