"I don't usually listen to albums repeatedly over the span of a few weeks; posting daily makes that almost impossible. In the case of The Clips' debut, Matterhorn, however, I didn't have much choice. I'd gone into it expecting something very specific -- frenetic dance-pop, to be precise, entirely because of this review by Quinn of From Blown Speakers -- and when it wasn't exactly that, I had to go away from it for a few days before I could get into the proper frame of mind. When I returned, I started understanding Matterhorn's appeal, even if it wasn't completely what I'd been looking for in the first place. From there, it just took several listens per week over the next few weeks, and I was converted."

"Matterhorn's handful of take-away songs make for a promising and enjoyable debut." -Pitchfork

"The Clips play a brand of indie pop that combines all the scatter-shot elements into a single package that gets dancey and funky, poppy and melodic, and rocks out with intensity and style. Their debut album, Matterhorn, at first appears to be all over the map. Once you've listened to it all the way through, though, you can join the dots and see that their songs have that elusive quality of working together as a collective and being able to stand alone in their own right. The opening track , "Wire", pushes the 7 minute mark, but never once gets old or staid; instead, it's a hypnotic introduction that peaks the listeners' interest."

NxEW.ca is a new Canadian music group blog. We have 60 + writers across Canada (and a few in the U.S.). We welcome anyone who wants to write about Canadian music - including musicians, promoters, managers, etc. (We're not the CBC and we exist to promote Canadian music, so conflict of interest is not an issue). If you'd like to chip in on the blog or want to submit stuff for consideration for the podcast get in touch at beach. justin at gmail.com
I hope that you guys had a great show on Saturday! I'm so sorry that the fates were not in favor that I should be able to host it, but I'm so glad that things came together as they should and I hope that the chance to come together is in our paths. Cheers
Hey, thanks for the friendship. Grace and peace to you.
My full-length debut album title Essays and Ear Candy is coming out TOMMORROW- Oct 1/2008. It's ELECTRO SOUL music and is in the same ballpark as Hot Chip, LCD Soundsystem and Sam Sparro. You know- music to dance to. It features an alchemic mix of danceable synth riffs, fervent and soulful vocals, and deep lyricism.
