| About The Cobra Phase |
|
Formed summer 2004, Brooklyn NY by DOUGLAS HODGES, formerly the drummer with the MOONEY SUZUKI, EASY (pre-TRANSLOVE AIRWAYS), Tav Falco's PANTHER BURNS, BELLMER DOLLS, GRAND PASSION and others, now wielding a silver-sparkle Italian Les Paul copy guitar and slashing away at it with a hypnotic pulse that only a former drummer could provide, while at the same time singing with a lilting, blissed-out irreverence. He was soon joined by his former bandmate MICHAEL LO on lead guitar, who provided the perfect foil for Doug's jittery rhythms with dizzying vibrato lead lines and an ocean of reverb-laced fuzztone swoops. Completing the circle, the rhythm section was supplied by drummer DAVE BERGER, a heavy hitter with jazz training and finesse in the Elvin Jones tradition, who punishes his drums one minute and carefully caresses them the next, and bassist DAVE BENTLEY, who provides a heavy rhythmic underpinning that is both stone solid and melodic, fluid riffs weaving in and out of the mix.
The Cobra Phase performed their debut live show in January 2005 in Brooklyn and met with an unexpectedly enthusiastic reponse. Since then, the band has been plied with offers to perform, by enthused promoters and admiring musical peers, and the word of mouth continues to spread virulently. This response is staggering considering that the group has not yet even provided a demo recording and has been playing live for mere months.
Get stoned with the Cobra Phase - they'll bugger you till you faint!
