"The Hardest Working Band on the North Coast"
- Randy Hugg - (102.7fm WCPZ)
"At first I thought Cabana Jack's was serving breakfast food this weekend, as it turns out though, Friday's listing for CoCoBeanOs is not a new cereal that's supposed to be good for you, but a "Rock & Roll Fortified" experience with one of the hardest working band around. They've opened this summer for Bad Company, and Herman's Hermits, plus they've been the in-demand band for area festivals, concerts, and private parties...."

In this, they have had opportunities to perform before such acts as Michael Stanley, Herman's Hermits, and Bad Company's Brian Howe. With hard work and dedication, the CoCoBeanOs have delivered some of the most powerful, energetic, and entertaining shows in Northern Ohio.

experience!
Introducing the CoCoBeanOs:
Scott Gast: Said to be the "Heart and Soul of the CoCoBeanOs," Scott’s fiery passion and uncontrollable energy ignites the stage. Scott not only sings and plays guitar for the band, but also acts as their manager. He loves music and spends every waking minute drowning himself in its melodies. Scott has said that his life long dream would be to write a song that would forever change the world.
Josh Post: As lead guitarist, Josh enjoys rocking out on his guitar to some of the trickiest riffs you'll ever hear. Although he is often content with just his guitar, Josh would someday like to own a massive wall of Marshall amplifiers, drive around in the Batmobile, and have minions.....lots and lots of minions.
Bryan Gast (aka Brutha B): Scott's younger brother (earning him the nickname of Brutha B), Bryan is no stranger to the local music scene. Having previously played drums in a band for years, Bryan knows how to lay down a groove and “gets down wit’ da jams” on his '63 Hofner Bass.
Brian Runkle (aka Runk): Having played with some of the area’s finest musicians and most popular bands, Brian has helped propel the ‘BeanOs to a new pinnacle of musicianship. Brian has quickly become a much respected and popular member of the band in his position as the timekeeper with his professional attitude, rhythmic skills, and talent.
Dylan Kendrick: The CoCoBeanOs Sound Engineer and a top-notch musician himself, Dylan pumps up the mix and keeps the dance floor vibrating with energy and excitement.
COCOBEANOS Q&A
1. What is the single largest misconception about playing in a successful band?
Well, one of the largest misconceptions about the CoCoBeanOs is that we're a Latin dance band, some kind of Jimmy Buffet tribute band, or a Breakfast Cereal. One time someone even thought we were a coffee shop in Norwalk. I don't know where that came from, but sometimes I want to have a contest to "Tell the Tale of the CoCoBeanOs." I'm sure it would be hilarious.
If you have a great CoCoBeanOs story, feel free to submit it to us through our website www.cocobeanos.com or message us from our myspace site. You could win some cool 'BeanOs gear.
2. What is the biggest advantage of being in a band?
Groupies, duh! Besides women throwing themselves at us along with random under garments I would have to say the special connection you develop with your band mates and the audience. It's like a family. It's a rare experience you can't find anywhere else. You feed off of one another and before you know it everyone is lost in the music.
We all love music, we live and breathe it and just the idea that we have the opportunity to rock out with great people night after night is an unbelievably satisfying experience.
3. Using spell check the word Concubine(s) comes up for the CocoBeanOs. Is that a mere windows formality or are the 'BeanOs synonymous with the ladies?
(Shrugs shoulders) What can I say? We're in a band.
4. With so many "local" talents continually disbanding after short periods in the spotlight, what is it that has made this band so successful?
Many years ago Scott made a blood pact to create the greatest rock 'n' roll band of all time. That quest still continues to this day. Besides that, we share a common ideology of music and what needs to be done as a band. Too many times egos get in the way, it's learning to put all that aside for the betterment of the whole. I think that's what has made the CoCoBeanOs a great little band.
5. I noticed the 'BeanO beads as being a crowd favorite, where can we pick up more 'BeanO swag when you are not onstage?
People will do just about anything to get their hands on our ridiculously awesome CoCoBeanOs' gear. T-shirts, Tank Tops, Baby Ts, Sweatshirts, along with CDs and other fun swag can be purchased on our web-sites www.cocobeanos.com, www.myspace.com/thecocobeanos, and at Musicians' Alley, 151 Columbus Ave, DT Sandusky, as well as at our performances. (We are currently out of stock. Please check back later for availability).
6. One thing you notice at any one of your shows is that you are definitely a band for all ages. Was that the plan from the onset or more of your musical influences?
It wasn't really in the plan, but we are very conscious of our audience and what will go over at different venues. We just love having a good time and our selection of music reflects that. Most of the songs we cover are classics or hit songs that would go over in just about any situation. If there's ever a question of whether a songs appropriate at a particular venue we just don't play it.
7. Speaking of influences, who has had the biggest impact on the CoCoBeanOs both locally and musically?
I would have to say our parents have had a great deal of influence on our musical tastes and shaping us as a band. My dad, George Gast, an owner of one of the North Coast's most trusted music stores, Musicians' Alley, located in downtown Sandusky has acted as our manager since we started and he used to gig a lot in the area with his band Tracer. George has helped us out tremendously with his wisdom, connections, and his love for the band. He truly is our biggest fan; he can't go anywhere without talking about the CoCoBeanOs.
Josh also comes from a musical family. His dad, John Post played guitar and sang in one of the area's top bands "Lock, Stock, and Barrel." We've grown up indulged in music. It just seems natural to us.
We've received so much support from our families it's hard to imagine what or where we would be without them. They come to nearly everyone of our shows; they're our secret weapons! Thank you so much!
Musically we come from a pretty wide range of influences. My brother, Bryan, and I grew up on the Beatles, which is obvious when you look at our gear. I play through a Vox AC-30 amplifier and my brother uses a '63 Hofner bass just like Paul McCartney used. You could say we're a little obsessed. Josh on the other hand is our resident '80s expert channeling inspiration from Van Halen, Paul Gilbert, and countless other Hair Metal Guitar Heros.
Most people are surprised by our musical selection at our age and usually expect us to crank out some heavy alternative music, but that's not quite our thing. We play music that everyone can enjoy; it's the music that we grew up on.
8. What advice do you have for artists out there that have yet to make it to the stage?
Although music is an art, it is also a business and if you want to gig out on a regular basis you need to establish yourself as such. Work hard, practice, and most of all, don't forget to have fun. That's really what its all about; getting lost in the music and taking the audience on a magical journey.
9. What is it that you would like those reading this and attending your shows to know about the CoCoBeanOs, that probably don't?
That we really appreciate their support. I can't emphasize that enough. Our fan base, ranging from young & old, from Toledo to Cleveland, the Lake Erie Islands to Columbus, and everywhere in-between is absolutely amazing. They make our performances great. They come to our shows ready to have fun and lose themselves in the music. Our fans inspire us to accomplish great things, whether its jumping around, dancing, playing guitar behind my head, or writing a song, they are helping us reach a whole new level. Thank you!
