A poem provided in observance of National Poetry Month.

Crystal Clear Blue Skies

Towers weep on peaceful shores.
Crystal clear blue skies.
Across the water, we answered the call,
Never questioning why.

Race over the berm and down the road,
Rebuilding ancient Babylon.
Smiles, waves, and shouts of joy.
Gratuities of hidden fire and roadside bombs.

Blistering sun and mouths full of sand,
White salt stains chalk the skin.
Handshake through a turret gun sight,
Peace attempted to win.

Pain, anxiety, disillusionment,
Seek comfort in each other.
Go back again, one more time,
Only for my sister or brother.

Prison Dogs Book

Jan 22 2008 9:35 AM

Hi--Thanks for joining me at Prison Dogs: Hope Behind Bars, my book project. It's an amazing documentation of the most powerful rehabilitation programs within prison walls---for canines and humans both.

Out of shelters and off of "doggie death row" these programs are saving dogs that many have called "throwaways" before! And that's something we can all "Woof!" about!

Woof Woof!

I know it's a lot to ask...but I really need your help. The Brava Novella Contest voting has commenced and I need your vote. It's not just a matter of popping over there and plunking down your vote...you have to register first.

So I'll resort to bribery...do I have anything you all need or want? Let me know...:-)

Thanks for the add.
My name is Makya. First I want to say 50% of all the money I earn goes into a scholarship fund for first-generation and low-income college students. With the money I raise, I buy course books for students in need. Like Maya Angelou, I want to be known as an intelligent, loving, and brave young lady who teaches others by doing, while also letting my LOVE FOR JESUS show in everything I do. I love science, and want to be a scientist or an astronaut when I grow up. When I first started school, I was promoted, so I'm one grade ahead of what I should be, and I'm a 4.0 student. I'm on the Honor Roll, and I love to learn. I've done several speaking engagements and would love to come out and talk to kids of all ages about being a young author and following their dreams because they can really happen. If you want to learn more about my fund, please see my page.

Best Wishes,
Makya Stell a.k.a. Tink-Tink
