ABOUT THE COMEDY PIGS:
Formed in 1992, the group has performed at national comedy festivals, been featured on Comedy Central, and have been guests at the National Pork Producers Convention. The Comedy Pigs perform regularly at Maryland Ensemble Theatre in Frederick, MD, and tour the region. For more information, call The Comedy Pigs, 301-694-4744 or visit www.marylandensemble.org
The Comedy Pigs was first envisioned in Chicago by Tad Janes after coming off the Second City bred "You Go Down, Go Down, Go Down, Go Down, Go Down, Take a Left". Originally, Janes was brought in on his reputation as a character actor, and later added to the directing and producing of the show. Next, Janes produced and directed the improv based play "Living Free on Planet Three," which was a Chicago cult favorite. With the Pig idea in his head, he scouted for a different location in which to bring this style of comedy. The Baltimore/DC area seemed quite ripe for such an event, and with the close proximity of Philadelphia, Richmond, and New York; a touring company would be in perfect striking distance.
After hundreds of original sketches and songs, The Comedy Pigs still write all of their own material. Currently they perform short and longform improv, sketch and musical comedy. One of their games, "Story, Story," was invented by Larry Arrick, one of the founding members of The Compass Players & the father of one of the founding Pigs, Sophie Arrick.
