"God knows I do the best I can so fuck everything!"
- Anton A. Newcombe
The Committee to Keep Music Evil formed in 2001 after Strung Out In Heaven's tenure with TVT records expired. In conjunction with Greg Shaw and Bomp! Records, founder Anton Newcombe felt he needed to beat The Man at his own game. The Plan was to release
BJM music not available through other channels, and to record new bands which we will be producing from time to time—while pursuing the goal of making the world unsafe for rock
and roll.
The Committee released a number of albums from the BJM including Bravery, Repetition and Noise, Spacegirl and Other Favorites and the Zero EP, as well as now rare collectible 7" and 12" singles . Artists such as Floorian, The Lovetones and The Telescopes also joined the Committee.
Fast Forward 2007... The idea of bringing the Committe to a more powerful entity was being considered, and in the summer of '07, Cargo Records in the UK approched the Committee to form a partnership, which would concentrate on re-releasing the entire BJM catalog on vinyl -- which had not been done to date -- and also give the Committee a way to expand the catalog by bringing in new artists. In 2008, the Committee catalog will see releases from bands such as The Quarter After, Sprindrift (both from Los Angeles) and The Asteroid 4 (Philadelphia) -- in addition to the planned BJM vinyl archival releases and other currently unavailable music from the BJM, recorded over the years.
The Committee is also partnering with Apollo Audio (Philadelphia) to provide streaming previews of all the albums in the catalog, giving listeners an opportunity to spread the word about The Committee releases via the website's bloggable Flash player. The albums will also be available for purchase digitally via the website, and when purchasing vinyl releases, download hi-resolution MP3 copies of the album for their portable players.
The Committee stands for everything the music industry doesn't: the artists, the music, the revolution. With branch cells around the world, The Committee is recruiting the army that will fight for the right to bring real music into the world. We use the principles of cooperation and networking to show that no one needs the major labels to get their careers going and build a solid fan base.

The Asteroid No.4 These Flowers Of Ours The Committee to Keep Music Evil
Pittsburgh's The Asteroid No.4 have always occupied space in between '60s folk rock, garage, shoegazer, paisley underground, and full on psychedelic experimentations. One really can't see that's a definite place on the musical spectrum. A better explanation is that they are from space, or at least, went out there long ago and made it their home. On their recent release, These Flowers Of Ours, they've taken their musical tools of the trade and various influences and appear to have let them take on a life of their own. The result is the closest thing one can get to a new genre of rock 'n' roll. The music can be melodic, but the fuzz and feedback can also pierce you at the same time. The album has beautiful cover art and incredible liner notes also. One might initially think to themselves "They don't make albums like this anymore," but truthfully, no one's ever made an album like this. Go here to learn more about The Asteroid No.4's gift to all of us, These Flowers of Ours.
