It all started about 1996 when Lynn and Patty were working on their old-time stringband chops. They started meeting with Tony to practice. Howard, who is long-time friends with Tony soon joined them and the Common Taters were born. A few years later, Joe was pulled into the group.
Ida Tater came home and announce to her parents that she had finally found the tater of her dreams. "Well, who is he?", they said? "Is he a fine upstanding Idaho potato?" "Is he a Russet Red Potato?" "Well, no", Ida replied. "The man of my dreams is Walter Cronkitie".
"Walter Cronkitie!", her parents exclaimed. "Why he's only a common tater!"
