Lipstick Traces
After a year and a half our singer and guitarist decided they wanted different things and left the band.
Now 2008, we are almost close to having a definitive line-up and are ready to rock again on stage!!!!!
More than 10 years and nearly 800 live gigs in Belgium, France, Switzerland and the Netherlands. ( Reality )
Still your best guarantee for more than two hours " fun " with a mix of great all-time hits and their own stuff. ( S.L.L. in Le Peuple )
Sounds rough, a bit like The Rolling Stones and Stevie Ray Vaughan. Powerful rock, strongly influenced by the blues.
The typical vocals are prominently in the forefront, John Hiatt with the primal scream of Joe Cocker. ( S.G.G. in The Newsweek )
Made in 1997 their first c.d. " OUT OF SIGHT " on Donor Records.
( Pop encyclopedia OOR )
The c.d. is an exact copy of the music the band plays live at this very moment : roots rock that suits perfectly in a grimy bar in The States. ( Kloot Per W ; producer " Out of Sight ")
Made a very successful steamy record,; few will succeed.
" Meme " is probably the new businessmen blues and " The Local Bar " could be a hit of Z.Z. Top. ( Stage Magazine )
A real surprise for us. A bit Arno, but closer to the roots of the rock oriented. Especially the French songs appeal to the audience.
( Laurent Lavige, producer France Inter )
The use of Latino rhythms and brass, violin and cello, Hammond and Farfisa organ, mandolin, acoustic guitars and fretless bass, together with a classic rock line-up, adds a particular sound to this c.d. The result is a catchy, colorful and dishy statement.
( Willy Willy, producer " Tac Tic Too ")
Started in 2001 their own label " El T Music " and released their third cd , called " Shower diaries "
This cd is a perfect mix of their own stuff and home-made arrangements of some well known classic hits such as " Mrs. Maggie Mc Gill " ( The Doors ) and " We want the Airwaves " from The Ramones.
" We want the Airwaves " appears also on the Belgian Ramones Tribute cd. " 1….2…3…4… " brought about by Kloot Per W and distributed by Zomba Records ( 2002)
In august 2002 Lipstick Traces starts their " Tour of Switzerland ", but unfortunately they were obliged to cancel the project after 2 concerts, due to acute laryngitis of the singer.
2003 shows great promise.
Lipstick Traces starts an acoustic tour in January, called
" The Candlelight concerts " , which culminates in a the sparkling gig at the NiXXX Bluesclub in Enschede ( The Netherlands ) en DJS Podium in Dordrecht ( The Netherlands )
" Paris " is one of their own compositions that appears on the compilation cd. " Hall of Fame III " of Radio WSNV Thornton
Illinois ( USA )
As a result of the candlelight tour, Lipstick Traces recorded in January 2004 their live acoustic cd “ Thanx 2 U “ at The Music Club in Lotenhulle ( Belgium ).
“ Thanx 2 U “ is the first non cyber interactive acoustic live cd ever made. It is the result of an original cooperation with the audience.
All present at the recording sessions helped us create the complete lay out of the cd.
There was a big canvas and a lot of paint.
Everyone who had more in common with Salvador Dali than a big moustache could give a free rein to their passions.
The result became the cover sleeve.
All present gave a quotation to every song played; the twelve best are on the cd.
At last they could suggest a title.
From all propositions we preferred
“ THANX 2 U “
“ Thanx 2 U “ is released in September 2004, and it received sparkling reviews e.g. :
Lipstick Traces is not an ordinary blues- rock cover band. They have a lot to offer.
Tango Toute Seule sounds like a perfect mix of Arno, Dani Klein and Patricia Kaas (Mademoiselle Chante Le Blues).
( BV in Rootstown Music )
All fans of unplugged albums, just like those of Golden Earring and Eric Clapton, the blues and the boogie, should be delighted with this really exciting cd. There is even no need to listen to it before buying. You’ll be convinced at once.
( J.P. Lhoir ; Music in Belgium )
Lipstick Traces is not an ordinary bluesrockband, but “ Teaspoon “ and “ Walking blues “ prove very clearly that they know their way in the twelve bar land.
( GV in Bobtjes blues magazine )
This album is a voyage over different horizons, sometimes unexpected. Harmonica blues, tango, country ballad, sometimes pop or a French song. Songs with a simple but catchy riff, that curls up your head
( V.C. in Blues & Co )
It seems that original bluesrockcovers of all time hits, in combination with their own songs is the future trademark of Lipstick Traces.
In 2006 the band starts with a partially new line-up and is exploring new musical horizons.
To be continued ...
