About the Bands & Musicians….listed in approximate order of appearance
Preconcert activity…Brian DiPalma, a senior from FPU, will be playing unplugged outside under the Tower entrance as guests arrive and Patrick Miller, landscape architect and San Joaquin River Parkway planner from Berkeley will play piano on stage prior to the concert. Be there by 7:30 to hear them.
At 8:00pm…
Minstrel Boys – an eclectic group of talent will open the show with a few rock and folk cross over songs. The group boasts an array of young musicians like Chuck Ervin, a senior from Big Creek at Sierra High on bass; Ben Hiebert, a 14-year old guitar artist from Fresno; and two brothers that play with The Stone Foxes from San Francisco, Spence Koehler on guitar and Shannon Koehler on harmonica, drums, and vocals. They are joined by river buddy veterans Tom Hiebert, a professor of music at CSUF who will play keyboard and sing for the group; Paul Pierce, an organization development specialist and classically trained violinist that went bluegrass; and Dave Koehler, the Trust’s executive director on guitar. River Camp veterans and brothers, Taylor and Alden Moir of Sanger, will join as special guests for two numbers.
The Stone Foxes—three San Francisco State students that play blues, rock and folk with a vengeance. Aaron Mort and Shannon Koehler both cover the vocals; Aaron, a strong singer and songwriter, also plays guitar and harmonica. Shannon plays drums, blues harmonica, and contributes as vocalist and songwriter. Spence Koehler, a well-seasoned lead guitarist, concludes the trio and writes the majority of the band's musical material. Since their childhood, these three have been immersed in the music of blues, rock and folk greats, gradually building a base for their own music to grow from. You can sample their original music at www.myspace.com/thestonefoxes
The John Berg Experience—a group of friends, some old, some new, featuring the distinct stylings of three different lead singers: Rachel Roellke, inspiring national award winning vocalist of USC acapella group The Sirens; sweet Lisa Kao, lead singer of local group Lisa's Big Night Out; and commanding Greg Stobbe, music lover and award-winning journalism teacher at Fresno Christian School. Joined by groovy bass player Matt Wall from local band The Dalloways, JT Hughes, precision drummer extraordinaire of the local band Serus Victoria, charismatic keyboardist Sarah LeBeau, the JBE is driven by stellar lead guitarist John Berg. Brought together by Parkway staff member and solid background vocalist Patty Pittman, and her husband, talented rhythm guitarist Steve Pittman, this eclectic mix of musicians has come together to form a bluesy, spirited group. From U2 to Dido to Bonnie Raitt, the JBE never stops rocking.
