Sounds Like
From UrbanHonking.com: "This foursome plays classic East Coast College Rock a la The Replacements, Throwing Muses, and The Pixies. There's surprisingly little of this type of music in Portland and The Conductor definitely [does] it justice with their catchy well-harmonized tunes and rock solid rhythm section."
From Sound ExplosionWillamette Week's guide to MusicfestNW 2006:
"A rattling ship of Portland grit-pop prowess, The Conductor hasn't made a big splash on the local scene yet but should be watched. This is what Tom Waits would have sounded like if he'd been raised on Nirvana."--Mark Baumgarten
Based in IndieTown, USA, The Conductor was originally the brainchild of vocalist Dirk Wood. What started out as a twang solo project underwent a five-year evolution of line-up and stylistic changes that made The Conductor a full-fledged high-energy rock quartet.
The most-recent line-up featured Wood along with former Vegas Beat and current Team Dresch drummer Marci Martinez, ex-Blanket Music bassist Jez Miller, and guitarist Greg T. Bobbitt, formerly of Radio Nationals/Haywire. The 4-song demo, 'Post Conductor', was recorded in late 2003 with Cord Amato (of Wow + Flutter fame) providing engineering know-how at Interval Studios, and also contributing drums and keyboards to the recording. The band is currently on indefinite hiatus, although there are plans to release a full-length album later this year, recorded in 2006 at Interval with Dave Fulton.
Available for birthday parties and bar mitzvahs. A must...
