It starts with singer / guitarist Matt Wheeler, also known as Cornfed. Matt was a drummer by trade for many years, playing in countless bands. Unlike many drummers though, Matt had ideas. Good ones. Like for "songs" and stuff. But we all know that no one ever listens to the drummer. That was Matt's frustration for years until he finally snapped. He taught himself to play guitar and to transfer those songs in his head onto what we used to call "tape." Over time he became really good at it, constructing a huge arsenal of guitar-heavy, big-drummed lethal rock weapons. He wrote, recorded, played all the instruments on and sang everything by himself -- like Trent Reznor, without the bad haircut. Those are the songs you hear on this page.
People loved the songs. Still, Matt was lonely. But that was about to change.
Fresh out of a band that Matt used to go see every now and then, bass player Chris Shinkus heard through the grapevine (or Matt's MySpace page) that Matt was feeling the itch to try playing his songs live. Chris called his bluff and called him up. Pretending they were sixteen again, the two of them got together in Matt's garage and banged out some songs. Purely platonic sparks flew instantly, and with Matt taking the plunge into frontman status and Chris holding onto his the bottom, The Cornfed Project as a band was underway. Now they needed another guitar player.
Guitarist Travis Buchanan was minding his own business. Just doing his thing, you know? He had played in a band with Matt the Drummer for a while back in the day. But he was done. Out of the life. Apparently, though, no one had ever told Travis that you're never really out, capiche? Matt called Travis and gave him the hard-sell. Made him an offer he couldn't refuse. And just like that mythical flaming bird the ancients named after a city in Arizona, Travis arose and was back on the shredding job.
That brings us to now. What about a drummer, you ask? Well, we finally got one of those, by the name of Nate Walker. Good things come to those who wait. Nate kills, and he's cute as hell too.
