Bio
Less alike than these four peas you have never seen in the same pod. If they were raised as sisters it was by a Father who sang like an angel and by a Mother who loved the devil's music. Guitar pop, folk tales, protest songs, country music, piano ballads and gospel must have all gone into the same soup from which these women supped. Although unified in their musical tastes, as songwriters and interpreters The Cornshed Sisters display a healthy disregard for unity of subject matter (reminiscent perhaps of Randy Newman, Joni Mitchell or Richard and Linda Thompson). On their debut album 'Tell Tales', the ladies tackle waterbabies (Tommy), marriage, men in sequined suits (Dance At My Wedding), gardening (If You Were Mine), soothsayers (The Beekeeper), making pies out of people (Pies for the Fair) and the axis of love and bombs (Dresden). And, there's some unusual stuff too. Drawing on a palette of vocals, assorted guitars, ukulele and piano they convey these ideas with sensitivity and humour. Their four distinctive yet sympathetic voices range far and wide, recalling the emotive tangles of The Band as often as the choral elegance of The Roches yet sung and arranged in their own distinctly English manner. The Cornshed Sister's debut album 'Tell Tales' was recorded and co-produced with Peter Brewis at Field Music's studio on the banks of the Wear with minimal overdubs, capturing the Sisters in all their dynamic glory. The Cornshed Sisters are Jennie, Cath, Liz and Marie. They live and work in Tyne and Wear. To join our mailing list please send an email to: thecornshedsisters@hotmail.co.uk -

Sounds Like
"though not blood related they posses a sibling like understanding when it comes to vocal harmonies. This was well illustrated on the country gospel standard 'Father Along' —their version inspired by the vocal group formed by Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris and Linda Ronstadt; Trio underlined the girls potential as an act possessing creative flair. Among the greatest beneficiaries were fine renditions of folk ballad Mad Tom From Bedlam —as effective and innovative keyboards figured strongly. Others were to include 'Wind And Rain', and what a masterful stroke it was to do it a cappella fashion. " Maurice Hope Jumpin hot gig reviews ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "I must admit to missing openers Cornshed Sisters, as I was still in the bar, transfixed by a man in a King Kong suit carrying a model Empire State Building through the foyer."
