...what kind of a man desecrates a defenseless flyer ?!?!?
“…it’s rock’n’roll, baby, bombs away…!”
Is that the mantra of ‘The CosmoSonics’ ? Perhaps, if you choose to simplify. But if you care to dig a bit deeper into the background of this Pittsburgh, USA 4-piece, you’ll find the roots of their musical strut lie squarely in their love of many forms of real rock’n’roll.
The four members of ‘The CosmoSonics’ concocted their sound from a gnarly mixture of their musical influences; blending everything from ‘Glam’, early ‘Punk’, classic ‘Metal’, ‘Blues’, and ‘Powerpop’…glampunkmetalpopbluez ! Or, as the band refers to itself, ‘JUNK ROCK’. Needless to say, the ‘The CosmoSonics’ have a familiar sound, without sounding stale and dated, and that is VERY refreshing in a world polluted by pretentious ‘indie-rock’ and melancholy pseudo ‘metal’ – ALL HAIL THE JUNK ROCK REVOLUTION !!!!!
Songwriting is a top priority for ‘The CosmoSonics’ .
These boys have cultivated their songwriting talents into brand of hooligan-noise represented by their 2007 debut record, “Junk Rock…For Lovers!” The debut is 12 tracks of bombastic solid-gold sonic-swagger, chock full of raunch’n’roll, snarl’n’soul, and so many hooks, it would make a pirate damn proud !
“Junk Rock…For Lovers!” has been met with killer reviews, from the likes of ‘Classic Rock’ magazine, to various websites and webzines throughout America and Europe, plus some great reviews from the band’s local newspapers, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, and the Pittsburgh City Paper.
Gary D’Grave (vocals ‘n’ guitars), Chaz Zalapski (guitars ‘n’ vocals), Harrison Dray (bass ‘n’ vocals), and Angel O (drums) formed ‘The CosmoSonics’ in June of 2006. ‘The C-Sonics’ formed out of the ashes of Ang, Gary, & Harrison’s previous band. Those fellas spent 4 years as very important members of that aforementioned band, & were ready to take on a new challenge.
Many bands must face lineup changes during their existence, and ‘The CosmoSonics’ were not immune to that ailment. December ’07 saw the boys release Harrison Dray from his obligations with the band. This created an opening in the band that bassist Rocky Lamonde would soon fill.
All four members of the band are seasoned veterans of the western Pennsylvania rock’n’roll scene. Gary (ex-Child Of Fire / ex-The Science Fiction Idols), Chaz (ex-Hallowmas), Rocky (ex-Torn & Frayed), and Angelo (ex-Ultimatics / ex–The Science Fiction Idols), cut their teeth in these previous bands. Each member came into the ‘The C-Sonics’ with writing, recording, and touring experience.
‘The CosmoSonics’ are a hard working bunch. Evidence of their determined work ethic can be found in the fact that, despite the formation of the lineup in July of 2006, the boys released a full-length CD in under a year’s time, all while constantly pumping their glamslam sound live & in person.
These fellas have gigged all over the east coast of the USA, including : New York City, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Baltimore, Albany, Allentown, Cleveland, Buffalo, Cincinnati, Columbus, Akron, Rochester, and, of course, their hometown of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania !
‘The CosmoSonics’ have also had the honor and privilege of sharing the stage with killer national acts such as : ‘Enuff Z Nuff’, ‘Crash Kelly’, ‘Trashlight Vision’, ‘The Erotics’, ‘Rhino Bucket’, ‘Crimson Sweet’, ‘the Star Spangles’, and the ‘Turbo ACs’.
These boys have also been able to wrangle some airplay on Pittsburgh’s local airways, including WXDX, WYEP, and a live performance on FM juggernaut, WDVE !
Although ‘The CosmoSonics’ have been quite busy since their inception, the boys have continued writing junkrock gems, including deliciously decadent “Sick, Sick, Sick”, “Anywhere”, and “Macabre A Go-Go”. This is all in preparation for the NEXT ‘C-Sonics’ record…another junkrock masterpiece, perhaps ?!?!
If you haven’t seen ‘The CosmoSonics’ in the flesh, yet…what the hell are you waiting for ???...COME ON, FEEL THE NOIZE POLLUTION !

Thanks for having us on the bill at the Hard Rock. You guys sounded great as you always do. Tell Chaz to flub a note every other show or so in order for the rest of us axe slingers to not feel so inferior. And, hey Gary, was the riff for "For Lovers" taken from White Goblyn's "The Lucky One's Gonna Make You Cry" song??? It sounded familiar.
