The Crickets Sound Project are unique – Based in Glasgow, Scotland, The Crickets Sound Project are a 4 piece outfit who perform the songs of one of the most influential bands in the history of modern music and of the past 50 years, namely “The Crickets”. Performing all the hits from the time The Crickets were with Buddy Holly, they also play the great songs The Crickets released from mid 1958, through the 60’s (I Fought the Law, Baby My Heart, Lonely Avenue, My Little Girl). But not only do they play the songs of Buddy Holly/The Crickets with the passion and spirit those great songs deserve, they also write original material in the same vein as the early Crickets songs. Carrying on in that spirit and love for music, long time fan of Buddy & The Crickets, Pete Carroll (Singer, Guitarist & Songwriter), is currently writing new material, which is very much influenced by his heroes and an CD release is planned for later in the year (2008). Thanks to Buddy Holly, JI, Joe B and Sonny Curtis, Pete has signed 4 Music Publishing Contracts with Music Publishers in Nashville (Big Wedge Music) and in Wisconsin (Brandon Hills/Heath Brown Music) in the USA. Two of those songs Pete co-wrote with his US songwriting partner, Pam Messick, who is based in New York State. Just goes to show that The Crickets are still influencing musicians worldwide ! The Crickets Sound Project has a very special line-up of experienced musicians. Glasgow born, Pete Carroll on main vocal and guitar has been a huge fan of The Crickets for 22 years now, and learned to play the guitar by listening to Crickets songs over and over again, so much so that his parents know all the words and guitar licks !!...Using an old acoustic guitar with fishing gut for strings, he learnt the chords for Peggy Sue, Oh Boy, I Fought the Law, by playing one string at a time, until eventually, he mastered all the strings. Since Pete’s early days in the mid 80’s, he was initially a lead guitarist in bands then ended up fronting his own 3-piece combos singing/playing his own material, and took what The Crickets taught him and used it in the Rock, Pop, Country Rock, Blues, Metal, Grunge and Indie Pop/Rock combos he’s been in over the years. Pete also went to college to study Sound Recording & Music Technology back in the 90’s, inspired by “The Crickets Sound” and Norman Petty’s Sound Engineering ingenuity – All the songs on this my space were recorded by Pete in late 2006. West Yorkshire’s finest; Glynn Wilsher is on Drums & Backing Vocals. Glynn, now based in Glasgow, has many years of Original and Cover Band, Touring & Recording experience, has played in orchestra pits, toured all over the UK, Europe and the Med, is a Percussionist, a Bass Player, keys player, is a DJ, a Solo Entertainer, a Music/Percussion Tutor, has covered Deps for numerous bands & shows, was the Musical Director for 'Little Shop of Horrors” in Wiltshire, England, has performed at The Royal Albert Hall twice and more recently, has toured with Scotland’s top ABBA Tribute Show “Abbacadabra”. …………Gavin Fraser, from sunny Edinburgh is on Stand Up Bass and backing vocals. Guy Patterson is ..s, Rthm Guitar & Bck Vcls and has been involved in the Scottish Music scene for nuemrous years. He is also actively involved in the Scottish & Irish Folk scene. The lads are currently in rehearsal and perfecting their set and will be performing Crickets songs and original material live very soon. Keep an eye on gig/tour dates here.
