Take the sound and spirit of The Crickets (with and after Buddy) and Buddy Holly, some Ray Charles mojo, the Backing Vocal Harmonies like that of The Picks/ The Roses/The Everly's, the lyrical drama of Hank Williams, bring it all forward 50 years, add some Rock & Blues and you'll have “The Crickets Sound Project” - Modern vintage !
Although the music was way before Pete's time, he nonetheless brings all his influences together and presents them in a modern format as a Songwriter, under "The Crickets Sound Project" banner. The above songs are a tribute to Pete's heroes, but also an indication of what's to come. He is currently writing & demoing new "original" material for his debut album "Rollercoaster", (a working title ) which should be out by Summer 2009 and will feature some very "Special Guests" !!!
The Album material is heavily influenced by Buddy Holly, The Crickets, Sonny Curtis, Ray Charles, Classic R&B, Country Rock and Blues, but most definitely has a modern, contemporary feel.
Pete's own songs at www.myspace.com/petecarrollmusic demonstrate his songwriting ability and the above covers and the songs at Pete's songwriting My Space are also a demonstration of Pete's ability as a Producer, influenced by the talent of Norman Petty, Buddy Holly and The Crickets. He has also co-written songs with his New York State songwriting partner, all of which (his own and co-written songs) have been signed to US Music Publishers - (see www.myspace.com/messickcarroll).
Pete plays all instruments, sings all the vocals and is self Produced, just like his heroes and records it all by himself. He was inspired by "The Crickets Sound" and the production ingenuity of Norman Petty to go to college in the early 90's and study Sound Recording & Music Technology for a few years.
Pete is a Songwriter in his own right and has signed umpteen Music Publishing Contracts with Music Publishers in the USA.
A new website will be up and running soon.
Pete’s song “Keep On Shining On”, a tribute to Buddy Holly and also to The Crickets, is the only Buddy Holly Tribute song “ever” to mention The Crickets !! It's featured on www.myspace.com/normanpetty
The song recieved airplay on Radio Stations across the UK and in Europe as the 50th Anniversary (1959-2009) of the deaths of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper came around in Feb 09.
