The Crooks were proud to be apart of the ‘Union of Soul’ tour.
Headlined by the John Butler Trio and also featuring Lior and Clare Bowditch and the feeding set.
Influences
Old twangin stylin blues like Robert Johnson, RL Burnside, Bob Brozman CW Stonking.
Hard Hittin Funk like The Brown Hornet, Cranky, Parliament.
Strange shit like Ween, Beck, the Xcutioners and Adam Greennm.
Rockin stuff like Hammerd and Tomahawk.
Classic dudes like Frank Zappa, Johnny Cash and Tom Waits.
Fuckin cool song writers like Nick Cave, Calexico and Keziah Jones.
Most of our songs are influenced by what is going on around us, Kitchen shit (cause were chefs) politics, lovin our ladies (and yours), Fuckwits (and I think there are more of them then us), cool folks (like us and you), AND sometimes we just make up stories SO there you go........our influences.
Sounds Like
We try not to be caught up in clichés and to be original, although we have strong influences from Blues, Funk, Jazz and many other kinds of music...
We like to think we’re engaging, good times tunes, with big twist of dirt bag... Our music speaks with honesty about people, opinions and life, without social conformity.
We try to push the envelope wherever possible especially arrangement wise. Call us a couple of booze n’ blues hounds with a bit of will to work at some good grooves & semi mature ideas!
Last Chance at being Rock Stars So we’ll Down a couple and give it a crackin’ shot...
“Gritty hard blues that ain’t shy for shit, with a balls swingin’, stomp it out and get blind ass drunk attitude.”
Frankie and Davo are THE CROOKS. Cookin up some of the hardest blues and roots driven music that probably gets approval from the devil himself. The floor boards in many a pub over OZ have been stomped to point of flaccidity while these two take themselves and their instuments to the same level of exhaustion
Dave Crook is the drummer...a charismatic, well groomed man with a hard head and a big passion for groove, funk and a good beer. He tolerates his mate and Co Crook FRankie.
FRankie' biggest problem is his body. Bleeding fingers, cramped legs from stompin and a hoarse throat are just some of things he has to go through. Still the greater god of BLues is his wing man and together they stay focoused on the prize.
Hell bent on fat resonator tones and foot stompin beats The CROOKS manage to get across the message in their music and that is "Life ain't too serious great things can happen to all of us and be taken away" so put on a nice frock call ya old mates and get out and see some Live MUSIC!

"Ticklin' The Strings" by Sweet Hollywaiians
Amazing Japanese hot string band playing 1920's, 30's, 40's style hawaiian, swing, calypso, blues, italian music and originals, featuring vintage instruments.3 songs with Robert Armstrong and Tony Marcus(from Robert Crumb and His Cheap Suit Serenaders)
"The Sweet Hollywaiians have probably the best feel for this 20's music of any string band working today. They manage the rare feat of sounding relaxed even when their playing is hot, are top notch musicians with tasteful arrangements and a full, rich, warm sound.Plus, they have a nice gamut of tunes, from King Nawahi to Giovanni Vicari to Bobby Leecan. See them live, if you can, for an unforgettable experience. If you can't, buy their Cds!" ~ Terry Zwigoff
