I have a sailboat now that I'm wanting to learn how to restore and then handle. Thanks to CJ and Mark of Southeast Boat Transport and Appraisal for their invaluable help! Folk art, outsider art, blues, football, hockey, fishing, reading, finding the answer to "why?", watching waves, enjoying the sun, savoring chocolate, exploring new places, cooking for someone who appreciates it. I'm partial to shiny things and rusty things and interesting things and people.

Music
YES, YES, YES!! Im all over the board. I've recently started listening to the new country music. You know, the country the country lovin' people are hatin' right now cause it sounds like pop. Taj Mahal, Janis Joplin, Uncle Kracker, Jack Johnson, Sister Hazel, Green Day, 80's hair bands, Johnny Lang, Omar and the Howlers, Bob Marley, Tom Petty, Jimmy Buffett and the list goes on.....
Movies
I'm partial to improbable romantic comedies and anything quirky. Love Tim Burton's stuff.
*SAINTS & CIRCUTS*SOLD*
Television
I still watch Sex and the City reruns on TBS. Miami Ink, half the stuff on Discovery Channel and TLC and VH1. House and Wife Swap.I had high hopes for Pushing Daisies which seems to have vanished with the writer's strike.
*MICHAEL'S INSTRUMENT AND A POT LID*SOLD*
Books
I'll read anything that holds still long enough. Love Carl Hiassen, John Irving, Stephen King, Tim Dorsey. Again, I go for quirky. One of my favorite books is "Peter Pan" and you'd just have to read it as an adult to understand the appeal. Same with "Alice in Wonderland." I've reread "Gone with the Wind" several times, also C.S. Lewis' "The Great Divorce" and "All over but the Shoutin'" by Rick Bragg.
*THE FIRST,AND SO FAR LAST, CRUCIFIX*
Heroes
We all need more of these. My dad. Howard Finster. Rick Bragg's momma. Mother Theresa. Nando Parrado. Mark Zupan. Jimmy Carter. CJ who is probably shuddering right now being all next to Jimmy and all.
crossgirl missed seeing you at Folk Fest but wants you to know, you can still see the crosses at Divine Excess Folk Art in Brandenton and at Heavenly Things in St. Pete. Posted at 10:47 PM Sep 29 view more
I am a self taught outsider folk artist raising three boys from scratch, always in need of a roadie for art shows, who could use a couple extra hours built into every day. In true folk art tradition, I do not have a studio, making do instead with covering all the spare space in my bedroom with my vast collection of found objects, wood and a few basic tools. I try to keep the sawdust vacuumed up. The art I create is mostly crosses from found objects. I've made a few other pieces but it's the crosses that I keep returning to. I don't have a good reason for this. That's part of the journey I suppose and maybe when there's an answer, there won't be any more crosses. I assume I'm in the midst of some sort of spiritual crisis that I simply don't have the time to explore. I'm sorry to say, I have no affliction, addiction or hard luck story. I did have an epiphany once. I've shown at the Mennello Museum's Folk Fest, three Who-Fest's, at Arts in the Park in Lakeland, House of Blues in Orlando, Platform Florida, the Polk Museum, where two crosses have joined their permanent folk art collection, and I've donated artwork to the Project Life annual auction in Tampa. I want more than anything to show at Kentuck. Check out my WEBSITE.
Who I'd like to meet: Patrons!!! Sponsors! Artists! Artists who work with found objects. People who've been to Burning Man. Anyone who wants to donate found objects. Interesting people with interesting ideas. People of imagination. Bono, John Irving, Johnny Depp, Jesse James of Monster Garage fame, Rick Bragg. My guardian angel. Cher. Alice Cooper. George Lowe. Tori Spelling. Really.

The flower is the poetry of reproduction. It is an example of the eternal seductiveness of life. ~Jean Giraudoux Flowers are the sweetest things God ever made, and forgot to put a soul into. ~Henry Beecher, Life Thoughts, 1858
It was majorly nasty here, not so much cold, but bad thunderstorms so I wimped out. My friend, Angie, said things went on as usual. Equal opportunity, they burned a giant penis...with an STD. Yikes! I miss folk art connections when I log on to FB. I'm dating my ex boyfriend again after 5 years apart, he's a pretty good musician in Columbus, GA. You still with your ex? I'll find you.. I'm Jan Darden White..for my high school buddies. Love ya!
