The Crown Town Showdown is a monthly event presented by Creative Loafing and the Find Your Muse Group aimed at increasing local awareness of the amazing local, regional, and national music that so often fly under the radar of the general populous in Charlotte, NC. Consisting of 6 acts selected from all genres, each of the artists performs up to 25 minutes, adding their unique flavor to an evening that pushes the boundaries of established musical styles and aims to shatter the ‘amateur’ perception of independent music.
The material is not the typical fodder you’d hear on commercial radio, it isn’t produced by focus groups using statistics and analyzing trends of the age demographic. These songs are the sound of real life, of personal struggles and the triumph of friendship, of honesty and openness, of love and… of course, of loss. They are the product of attentive ears searching for what rings true, and powerful voices singing in the name of what feels right. Together the acts create a one-of-a-kind magic that can’t be reproduced, yet is somehow re-kindled in a fresh new form and flavor from month to month.
Conceived by a collective consisting of well-traveled musicians and proactive fans; the Crown Town Showdown is (in these times) a rare case of a fresh idea being put into action for art’s sake. With the belief that sustainability naturally is derived from quality and with an amazing musical talent pool to dip from in the Charlotte area and beyond, the showdown is a new Charlotte tradition that quickly may become an institution. Don’t wait until your neighbors are talking about who they saw last night, come on out to the club and get introduced to the best music (which you may have never heard of yet) being played in your own back yard.
MarsupiaL will be performing with The Broomstars, and East Coast Dirt, this friday march 13th at the Doube Door Inn in Charlotte, NC. Tickets are $12. Show starts at 10pm.
