Much like a 6-year-old whose ex-hippy, now public-service-employed parents don’t believe in hospitalisation, the crustaceans were born in a backyard in suburban Sydney in 2002. Here are some things that happened to them in their formative years:
the crustaceans recorded a bunch of lo-fi two-track concept EPs, which their friends told them were rather lovely and which were occasionally played on the radio.
the crustaceans won a bunch of band competitions, including the prestigious Sydney University one, and were also responsible for the now infamous ALL-ON-BLACK incident, in which they bet their entire band comp winnings on one game of roulette at Star City casino.
the crustaceans recorded their debut album I’M HAPPY IF YOU’RE HAPPY under Simon’s grandparent’s house. The aforementioned Di and Don have just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary: will the album also enjoy such long-lasting success?
the crustaceans recorded their second album in 3 days in a bedroom in Surry Hills, Sydney. It’s way better than the first one. It remains untitled and unreleased.
the crustaceans disbanded in early 2009 after three of their four members were lost in an aviation accident. The Dash-8 aircraft was last in radio contact over Kakadu National Park. It has yet to be found. Those who were lost and their families remain in our prayers. Thanks for listening.
