The Crybabies were born out of a sincere friendship. Founder, Steve Aquino, had an idea, which he shared over many adult beverages one night at former watering hole Dinnys in Worcester, MA. That night Steve shared his dream w/ Cheryle Crane about forming a groovies-esque style band. 'I want Artie (Sneiderman) as the singer; hes an amazing talent ..'(or something like that) '..and I want YOU to play bass'. Cheryle added drummer, Joe Sheehan . Upon hearing about the project, Cheryle's husband, Jeff, couldnt resist and The Crybabies were formed.
All the babies have enjoyed a long career of music. Sneiderman had fronted several garage-soul bands and his emotional crooning stood its own against other singers on the scene. The Shambles even included 3 future Lyres; Paul Murphy-drummer, Rick Corraccio-bass and Steve Aquino-guitar. A true swingin scenester, Artie knows how to shake his money maker and get a crowd going.
Cheryle grew up in music, starting her public performances at the tender age of 13 when she joined her fathers band, Rick & the Legends. Dad had an impressive career of his own which included playing in Roy Orbisons backing band & brushing shoulders with Little Richard, Gene Vincents Blue Caps, Johnny Mathis & the like. Several bands later for Cheryle included; The Surreal McCoys (w/husband, Jeff), The Losers, The Ballbusters and a tour in Jeff Dahls backing band.
Joe, dubbed by Jeff as European Joe Sheehan can also brag. His band, Sheez Late, is where Crane & Crane first saw him. After that he joined them for studio-session projects: Jeffs solo album, French rocker, Freddy Lynxxs album which featured bands from across the US. He ventured to Italy and France on several tours w/ Jeff for both The Ballbusters and French band, The Cinders.
Jeff has a resume too long to print.. He left the band in 2002, just after the release of the babies debut album on dino records, How the other half lives to join forces w/ Boston legends, The Classic Ruins. He currently plays w/them (his American band) as well as being a founding member of French band, The Cinders (made up of former members of famous French band, The Dogs-which met a tragic end in 2002 when the front man & founder, Dominique Laboubee, passed away suddenly during their first US tour). Taking Jeffs place was guitarist, John Papas. John being the eternal Man of Mystery remains very tight-lipped about his musical history (one can only speculate the things John has been a part of !!).
Steve Aquinos resume, includes several bands, some with Sneiderman. When he founded the babies he was an active member of the Lyres and held the title of longest standing Lyres guitar player. His leaving the babies in the summer of 2005 left a huge gap the band knew would be difficult to fill.
Enter Aram Heller. The babies felt blessed by the addition of Heller whose impressive history included stints with The Hopelessly Obscure and founder of Boston indie label, Stanton Park Records. A long run w/local music mad-man, Kenne Highland in addition to a career in too many historic Boston bands to mention, Aram was the perfect addition, adding his own unique fuzzy garage-thang to the babies sound. Being a good friend of the band members, his addition helped successfully fill the hole left by Steves departure. Crane adds that Aram did not fill Steves shoes but rather brought his own.
Today The Crybabies move forward. They enjoy airplay of original tune Fool of Me and Everly Brothers cover Man with Money on Little Stevens Underground Garage radio show, Man w/Money being featured one week as Coolest song in the world. Their songs have become a mainstay of several independent radio shows throughout the world & several satellite radio programs. They were asked to do a track on the French tribute comp for The Dogs, "Stories of The Dogs" on Lollipop Records. Their track "Sunday in Stockholm" is clearly a quality performance which left Cheryle proud & maybe even a little misty-eyed after her personal experience w/The Dogs final visit to the US in 2002. Additionally The Crybabies backed up an up & coming pop artist for a 2nd track on that comp, "Forget that dog", which was also included on a cd sampler inside the Dec 2006 issue of French publication, Rock & Folk.
Little Steven's newly started record lable, Wicked Cool Records, includes an original track of The Crybabies on "Coolest songs in the world-Vol.2".
Rumors of new studio visits have many fans excited about a long awaited follow up cd.
