.. .............. ............ .. .. .. .. .. .. .. ...... ................ .. Southern Voodoo is the mongrel dog that pisses all over your blue suede shoes whilst staring you down with a very smug grin as if to say, “Do we have a problem?” .. .. Southern Voodoo; four unkempt misfits who grew up on a diet of Russ Myers and Sergio Leone movies laced with an unhealthy dose of Seventies Hard-Blues-Rock and Punk. Southern Voodoo supply the soundtrack to a “fantastical” dream world where heroes die with their boots on and honky tonk women are every bit as seductively beautiful as they are addictively lethal. But then Southern Voodoo’s selfdepreciating “wink” is also so obvious a blind horse would catch it. .. .. Following the release of two critically acclaimed albums; “The Love Militia (2005),” and the harder-hitting follow-up “Devil’s Drive (mixed by Chips Kiesby (Hellacopters, Millencolin), issued in 2007, here comes “Neon Dust Baby!,” the third instalment in a series of cracking, grease-drenched Rock N Roll. As its predecessors “Neon Dust Baby!” was produced by mouthpiece Dominique De Vos, the mix entrusted to Swedish producer, Theander “Theo” Anders (Backyard Babies, Pain of Salvation). This time around the group digs even deeper into their riff-rock universe, creating a dirty sensual beast of an album. .. .. Originally a trio founded by vocalist/ guitarist Dominique De Vos in 2001; the rhythm section went through the habitual changes prior to the current line-up consisting of Gill Debock (Bass) and Stef Derijck (Drums). After the release of their sophomore album the band recruited guitarist extraordinaire, blues fanatic, and “missing link”; Pieter Minne. Southern Voodoo has pushed the envelope on “Neon Dust Baby!” The band has surpassed all previous confines in the provinces of song writing, playing, and production. The album spits out a sequence of rockin’ riffs and memorable melodies, and cuts like the title track and the blues-infested “Subterranean High” are not only downright catchy but highlight Pieter’s sparkling guitar work. Then again this is not the end of the world as we know it. But at the very least “Neon Dust Baby!” will bring a sick grin to your face when you’re standing on the edge of the precipice, contemplating your next move. Southern Voodoo say: “Take a step back; it’s only Rock ‘N’ Roll…”   .. ..   .... .. ..   ..   ..
