WHO ARE THESE GUYS ?
The players have played around Memphis individually for years, in an assortment of different bands.
You may remember the players from such outfits as: The DON McMINN BAND, JASON D WILLIAMS, ROUTE SOUTH, FLATOUT, JOYCE COBB,
KIRK SMITHHART, and ROCK CITY ANGELS ... where they have played every venue in town from BEALE STREET, to the FED EX FORUM to the MEMPHIS BLUES BALL !
Joey Valdez (vocals/keyboards/guitars) began working in Memphis at Libertyland amusement park when he was 19, singing in a pop show. He has since gone on to earn a degree in music and become an accomplished vocalist, guitarist, pianist, and actor. Some highlights of his career include: 2003 National Chili's Commercial, 2005 - Walk The Line,
2007 - Nothing But The Truth and the 2008 - Soul Men
DONNIE BRUNSON (vocals/guitar) has been rocking Memphis stages with his original rock band FLATOUT for several years now.
A self described long haired country boy, he grew up in the Northern hills of Arkansas along the Spring river and moved to Memphis in 1988 .
Brunson has a wide vocal range allowing him to belt out hard rocker tunes with a vengeance, but also tone down and bring down the house with head nodding, lighter burning power ballad. Donnie is also a accomplished writer. Having been in the music business most of his life he has been the soul proprietor for the song writing in all of the bands he has played with for the last twenty years and currently he is writing for a young upcoming band out of Los Angeles California.
ROME MCMINN (vocals/bass) started playing bass on Beale Street with his father, Beale street legend DON McMINN and his brother in the legendary "Rum Boogie Band" at the age of fifteen. His ever-growing talent has made him one of the most sought after bass players in Memphis and the surrounding area. McMinn is featured on many recordings with Memphis greats DON McMINN, REBA RUSSELL and PRESTON SHANNON ta name a few. Live he has appeared with LEON RUSSELL, TOM STEEL (CINDERELLA), ALBERT KING, KIRK SMITHHART BAND, THREE DOG NIGHT, MARK SALLINGS, THE JUNKYARD MEN, BB KING, DON NIX, JOE WALSH, TOM WARE,
JIM DANDY (BLACK OAK ARKANSAS), GREG ALLMAN and JAIMO from the ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND.
Rome was born to be a bassist and once ya see him lay down the bottom or take ya off on a bass slappin' solo, I think you definitely agree. In his spare time McMinn enjoys sharing his love for music by participating in music workshops.
Willie "Too-Big" Hall WILLIE "Too-Big" is an American drummer. Hall was born in Memphis, Tennessee. He is the father of rapper Gangsta Pat. A protege of Booker T. & the MGs drummer Al Jackson, Jr., Hall played with both The Bar-Kays and Isaac Hayes's band The Movement. In the seventies, he backed dozens of major Stax artists on recordings, including Isaac Hayes' Hot Buttered Soul (1969) and Theme from Shaft (1971) albums, and on several Albert King albums. He recorded one album (1977's Universal Language) with Booker T. & the MGs after Al Jackson's murder, and later joined guitarist Steve Cropper and bass player Donald "Duck" Dunn as a member of The Blues Brothers Band, which subsequently led to his appearance in the hit movie The Blues Brothers, introduced as Willie "Too-Big" Hall, and its sequel. Willie is the latest addition to the THE CURBSIDE PLAYERSand when he slides on those dark shades the soul flows like lava off of Mount Kilauea "hot and nasty and slow but smooth "
