It makes sense that The Daily Afflictions have a diverse sound; their brew of eclectic, exploratory blues-tinged rock finds unexpected muses in indie, country, and even punk rock to create one manifestation of four very different people.
The Daily Afflictions were borne from the minds of Timothy Dean and Khurrum Ansari, during a chance meeting in Crested Butte, Colorado two years ago.
Dean draws upon his traveling salesman and professional drinking career to conjure bluesy, whimsical sonic fantasies about beaches, paradise, and the perfect woman in the vein of Tim Buckley.
Ansari, a rocket scientist by day (seriously), adds fuzzed-out mind trip electronics for a little extra fever. Both play lead and rhythm guitar, creating a communal onstage dynamic that sometimes shines the most during their intimate acoustic sets.
Then Western Homes brings the heat. An entertainment and sports journalist, as well as an audiophile, Homes beats out slapdash, energetic indie and punk rock bass lines, fevered backup vocals, and in-heat harmonica solos.
Finally, Alex "Schooled But Not Fooled" Venetucci, thrums out a concoction of rhythm on drums and congas, as well as backup harmonies. Along with the earth and trees, The Daily Afflictions share Ventucci with another band of note, the Orphaned Gears.(www.myspace.com/orphanedgears).
The resulting blues-infused rock is exploratory, electric, rambling and reminiscent, then tumultuous and revelatory – all steeped in the Boulder scene for a uniform sound.

Paul Miller aka DJ Spooky that Subliminal Kid, author of RHYTHM SCIENCE
Paul's event at the Tattered Cover will be Tuesday, August 26, at 7:30 pm in our Denver LoDo store. (This is the venue that is three blocks from the Democratic National Convention, which will be in full swing.)
The new book SOUND UNBOUND is Paul D. Miller's follow-up to his award-winning first book RHYTHM SCIENCE. First and foremost, SOUND UNBOUND is an anthology—a collection of thirty-six essays that focus on the role of the artist, composer, and writer in a world that is becoming more interconnected every day.
In a lecture format, exploring the overall theme of sound in contemporary art, digital media, and composition, Miller will reconstruct the history of sound and recorded media by several of the most well known artists of their field - ranging from Brian Eno, Steve Reich, Moby, Chuck D, and Pierre Boulez, to artists, writers and theoreticians like Jonathan Lethem, Bruce Sterling, Manuel Delanda, and even Islamic culture's relationship to hip hop with essay by media activist and artist Naeem Mohaimen.
It's a rip-mix-burn-lecture that will last an hour, and is accompanied by his use of many historic texts, rare audio recordings and films, to demonstrate the complex relationship between text and art in a multimedia context.
