some words from Ray Charles regarding analog vs. digital sound: “I have to tell you man. In listening to sound, I guess what I’m after is the closest thing that I can get to reality. Now, I know it’s not going to be reality, cause the thing gotta go through wires and gotta go through filters and this and that. I understand all that. But what I really like is to get as close to the natural sound of the instruments as possible. That’s why I like analog as opposed to digital. Because I don’t give a s**t what anybody tells you man, I know what you guys are going to tell me…’Oh yeah, but it’s clean Ray!’ Well it’s clean but it don’t got no balls!!!” - 1999 interview with Ray Charles by Michael Hobson of Classic Records. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ THE DEAD MEDIA is a record label, music/electronics store, and repair/audio transfer service focusing on 8 track tape cartridges. we also love and will be dealing with other tape formats in the future (reel to reel, hi-fi vhs, and cassette), but for now....the king of the hill - 8 track. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ WANT TO SEE WHAT WE HAVE AVAILABLE? view our PICS to see brand new 8 track releases and 8 track players we have for sale. QUESTIONS, COMMENTS, PURCHASE, INFORMATION? please myspace message or EMAIL us at - the_dead_media@yahoo.com - also, read the blogs for more background on how and why the dead media would engage in this catastrophe, and who is partially responsible. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ *********** IMPORTANT WARNING ABOUT 8 TRACKS/8 TRACK PLAYERS!! ************
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ WAIT!! before you play those 8 track tapes you just stumbled upon at a thrift store or inherited. THEY ARE BROKEN, or will break very soon. it sucks to go against instant gratification and not play them, but they should be fixed or rebuilt first. otherwise they will ruin to some degree. believe me, i've screwed up plenty that i thought were in great shape...or STILL SEALED AND NEVER PLAYED (these usually mess up the worst, believe it or not!). even if you feel sure that not in a million years will your 8 track break...it will. that's what 30+ years of existence plus bad foresight on the part of the manufacturers does. like a car that's been sitting in a field for 30 years...whether it has 200,000 miles or zero miles on it, you wouldn't expect it to perform like new, or at all. things rot. i've abandoned cds, mp3s, and even cassettes and vinyl for the most part, because listening to music on 8 track is the best i've ever heard it. BUT, it has to be heard RIGHT!! the biggest part of enjoying 8 tracks at their prime comes from rebuilding them. if you don't fix them first, then they amount to no more than their stereotype...a novelty. contact us and we'll help you get them fixed. sound on an 8 track is awesome. with a little patience and TLC you can enjoy them for a long time. the 8 tracks we sell have all been restored to work better than they did brand new.
