In January of 2008 Brooklyn Mike over at uber-blog Brooklyn Rocks called The Death of Jason Brody's first EP "a great debut that captures a lot of the post-punk sounds of the 90's and beyond." Click here to read the full review

The Death of Jason Brody was mentioned in the December 24, 2007, issue of the New York Times in "Anarchists in the Aisles? Stores Provide a Stage," by Ian Urbina. The band was featured for their guerrilla marketing tactics. You can read the full article HERE.

From Big Takeover issue 61: "This New York foursome's moniker is not a reference to anything morbid, but to singer/songwriter Brody's decision to jettison his former solo career in favor of a full-band approach. His presence is still at the forefront here, but his formidable ensemble now complements his pleasant, falsetto-tinged pop/soul crooning with bright and airy arrangements. Perhaps it is the two relatively brisk tunes that bookend this six-song EP (the superb "Call Off Your Dogs" and "Bitter Pill"), and the more amplified "Vanity," that show off his band's talents better. But when the group plays quieter, Brody's aching, forlorn lyrics are more laid out and bare, successfully evoking the 'overwhelming sense of longing' that the group's bio suggests."

Online zine Left Hip praised TDoJB's self-titled debut for its "flowing melodies" and "beautiful layered guitar riffs," and compares Jason's vocals to the awesome James Mercer (of the Shins)! Click here to read the full review by Gordon Isnor

"Introspective lyrics and a real appreciation for the hook.... While the band's nostalgic modern rock certainly sounds familiar, The Death of Jason Brody's music also brims with its own artistic uniqueness." --David Pitz, The Deli issue 11, Fall 2007 Read the full review

"TDoJB does stand out in a sea of monotony...the lyrics are very good. "Broken," a mellow track about a breakup, is completely relatable without being a pop cliche. Very noteworthy." --NF, On Tap magazine, 9/07 Read the full review

"Buzzworthy pop rockers, The Death of Jason Brody, just booked themselves into one of New York City's favorite little venues The Mercury Lounge (217 E. Houston at Ave A). Their gig, which is on August 15th (just so you know thats a Wednesday - figured I would save you the trouble of consulting your calendar), promises to be a launching point for this band getting ready to break. Besides the great tunes, there is going to be some rare The Death of Jason Brody swag to score at the show, including limited edition t-shirts (sorry fellas, ladies only at the moment) and other assorted doodads and prizes. So march yourself on down to the Mercury and pay the scant $10 cover charge to see a band everyone is going to be talking about in no time. Don't say I didn't warn you." --Dan Berkman, The Deli (blog entry), August 2007 Read the full review

"The debut mini-album sees [this] foursome as a tightly knit unit. "Call Off Your Dogs" is sweet and urgent, Brody's special voice at its finest. "Siren Song" is softer but has an evocative lead vocal and a nice melody. "Broken" is a sad and poignant breakup song where Brody's unique talent is fully unveiled." --Anna Maria Stjärnell, LunaKafe 134, August 2007 Read the full review

Read this feature on Jason that ran in Working Class magazine in July 2007, HERE

"Indie rock has never been better and the band plays out constantly so you have plenty of ways to see this for yourself, especially if you live in NYC." --The Fevered Brain of RadioMike, 6/26/07 Read the full review/Check out the Fevered Brain radio network

The Death of Jason Brody made Indie-Music.com's Top 25 of 2006. And writer Jennifer Layton said such lovely things, like: "No matter where this band roams, they envelop the sound with mystery and those gorgeous melodies." --Indie-Music.com, 12/06 Read the full review

"This self titled mini-album literally smacks you in the face and demands to be listened to.... Though I have never been to New York in my life, The Death of Jason Brody has the ability to put you right on the sidewalk of the city that never sleeps.... If there are more songs like this up their sleeve then The Death Of Jason Brody have a long life ahead of them." --Disco Stu McPhee, EarMedicine.com, 10/06 Read the full review

NOTES ON THE DEATH OF JASON BRODY:

New York rock band The Death of Jason Brody formed in early 2006 when Jason Brody, solo artist, decided to add the camaraderie and drama that only a full band can provide back into his life.

Brody comes from an artistic family and began studying classical piano at the age of seven. Eventually he started singing and playing the guitar, and by the late 1990s found himself gigging with various bands in and around New York City.

In 2001 Jason embarked on a solo career that led to the release of To the Quick (2004), a solid early effort that received excellent reviews in Keyboard magazine and a multitude of online outlets. Jason’s solo performances were full of spontaneity and intimacy, often drawing comparisons to the late Jeff Buckley, Elvis Costello, and other modern-day crooners.

By the end of 2005 Brody had gathered together a full band of like-minded musicians who built on Jason’s roots to create a decidedly bigger, more lush sound, and in early 2006 the close-knit team was officially christened The Death of Jason Brody. The quartet (Jason on guitar and lead vocals, Geoff Council on backing vocals and bass, Jeff Olson on drums, and Cary Hirschstein on guitar and keyboards) is a dynamic, focused entity that can turn it out like arena stalwarts Coldplay, or veer off into darker territory like Doves or Afghan Whigs.

As the band was coming together the first TDoJB EP was being recorded. TDoJB worked with stellar engineers and producers Geoff Sanoff (Fountains of Wayne, Hem, Astaire) and S.F. Norton (TV on the Radio, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Jay Farrar/Son Volt, Dirty on Purpose) off and on from late 2005 to mid-2006 (engineer Dave Harman of Arcade Audio also lent his skills to the tracks "Call Off Your Dogs" and "Midnight Stroll"), and released their self-titled six-song EP in late ’06. Less than two months later the EP was named a Top 25 of 2006 by Indie Music.com and a Top 10 of ’06 by SF Station.com. You can find the self-titled EP HERE.

2007 was a busy year for the band. Full-time management was secured when industry veteran Adam Pollock signed on and a national press campaign in support of TDoJB resulted in increased awareness of the band, Left Hip magazine called the EP a “nice debut effort,” praising its “flowing melodies” and “beautiful layered guitar riffs” and likening the vocals to James Mercer of the Shins. On Tap magazine wrote, “TDoJB does stand out in a sea of monotony,“ and NYC’s The Deli gushed, “See a band everyone is going to be talking about in no time.” Packed shows at high-profile New York clubs Mercury Lounge and Pianos established the group’s hometown fan base and gigs in Philadelphia and Los Angeles expanded their reach. A fall 2007 CMJ showcase and occasional stripped-down acoustic shows also added to the exposure.

As 2008 approaches, the band is writing and demoing material for a new album. A full PR and marketing campaign will support the new release and label interest is being cultivated. A showcase in Los Angeles as well as an expanded West Coast tour in early ’08 is also in the works, and look for the boys at SXSW in March.
