Influences
All those things that are so close, but just out of reach.
The Debutante was born in North London as a result of a drunken night. Realising that everyone was in a band, a few housemates decided to start a fictional group called Ebony. After many evenings of joy and spiritual enlightenment we came to the conclusion that we should probably have a go at rehearsing. After the first get together, huge arguments erupted and resulted in the offspring Diablo, the wicked brother of Ebony. Within a year we were joined by the legendary Owen 'fat face' Bentley on bass (aka 'The Ocean' in the early days). He brought with him friend Chris, now in Marcel, who you can hear playing the guitar on our first recording. A new band name was now discussed and after an evening of group reading and light entertainment we decided on The Debutante. Around this time we also secured the talents of Melanie. Hot and eager from touring India with her flute she brought a melodic and inspirational touch to the band. Then the bombshell...our first singer, Little Linda, decided to move back to Sweden...what now?! We were joined by Tina on vocals. Diablo disintegrated and we managed to snap up Nick and convince him to swap his bass for electric guitar. Oh, yes! Through a friend, Robin who lent us his guitar fingers for a short period, we met Helena. H has with her violin, and more recently mandolin, added to our country riffs and brought joy to our male audience. I'm not going to name all the drummers we've gone through over the years. Mainly because I can't remember most of the names of this fickle breed, but I'd like to thank Tony for his continuing support and my fondest 'Sorry I'm late - at least I made it' members would be Alcuin and Richard. Thank god for female drummers...we have now been joined by the lovely Jen, who with her beats really kicks ass. I'm the only original member from that hazy night back in 1997. I started off playing rhythm guitar and doing backing vocals. After Tina left I was filling in as main vocalist and as I have fallen in love with my part, I have not been too eager to find a replacement. We are in the slow process of mixing 7 songs which we recorded last summer. With Nick and Helena regularly joining me at the mic, and the way we build our songs I feel we have created a unique sound, which I hope you'll enjoy. -Linda.......

We had a great two days thank you very much, and we are planning to return in July for two trio gigs at The Bedford and Hitsheet (probably 18th and 19th), and again in September with the full band.
