The December Social formed in December 2005, has the combined talents of Jason Lavoie, Mike Whissell and Kyle Cochrane.
Upon meeting each other in the Lets Make a Demo Focus Program at NDSS, Mike, Jason, and Kyle were good friends before talk of a band had started. The group got together musically and created a simple, yet melodically true song that will forever be known as "The Waltz". They played the song in front of the class and it was acknowledged as a great mix of musical styles. Months after, the three got back together to see what could happen. Everything fit together perfectly, and in a few weeks, they were able to create songs that captivated the sonic power of the idea. That idea was "The December Social".
The bands sound can best be described as "Alternative Post-Rock with a Space Pop feel". Bringing a vast number of influences together, to create something familiar, but with a progressive nature.
The groups first collection of songs, called Real Naughts in the Rotosphere brings a 21st century twist on X-Generation irony. The message is lucid, "We are not free." The title of the EP describes a certain falsification of our corporate media world, and how our politically aware society is still powerless to prevent even the simplest corruption.
The December Social has already become a huge hit with peers, friends, and the common folk of Kingston, Ontario. Spreading out from the Let's Make a Demo Focus Program from Napanee District Secondary School to performing city wide amongst some of the greatest acts Kingston has to offer...
The upcoming release of the Talos IV LP bring together a continuation of spirits, adding a new vocal ideas and lyrical meandering. With more upbeat tunes like Intake and Metronome Song, expect the music style to adapt and mature to adjust to today's media crazed lifestyles with a glassy finishing coat.
