“The best music that I’ve heard on the radio in ages…”
~Leslie
“SO GREAT. I loved hearing some old Madonna and especially Queen Latifah and it was also fun to hear ‘Til Tuesday (and not “Voices Carry”). I love it!”
~Ali
“I’ve listened for the first time tonight to “The Deep End”. You’re just killing it. The playlist is so tight…and you’re so genuine. I also check out KCRW and 103.1…but this 'The Deep End' is something I won’t miss and will tell my friends and musician buddies all about it…”
~David
"Can't tell you how much I love your show...I was beginning to think that there wasn't a viable music scene in the U.S. and that Triple A radio had become so homogenized that it wasn't really listenable..."
~Lou
"LOVE that you're playin' old LL Cool J! I just love that shit!"
~Ian
“Seriously, best f------ show on the radio!! I love KCRW, but your mix is insanely great. That Outkast cover was unbelievable. And you played Deb Talan!! Thanks for a tremendous show…”
~John
"Thought interesting radio had died and I wasn't invited to the funeral. Turned out it's still alive. Thanks."
~Sheila
ABOUT ROSANNA LEE
I host The Deep End every Saturday from 9pm to midnight on KCSN 88.5FM in Los Angeles. The show is also streamed live at www.kcsn.org. In 2006, Los Angeles Magazine named KCSN the best university-sponsored station in town, exclaiming, "In a city of superb college-affiliated radio stations, KUSC for classical music, KCRW for public affairs programming and world music, KPCC for local coverage ... Cal State Northridge's stands out."
I search far and wide for the best new voices in folk, rock, and pop to play on the show, and I also like to put some dance, funk, and hip hop into the mix. When I put together my playlists, I dig into my record, tape, and CD collection which dates back about forty years. Music has always been my truest companion, and I treasure all the amazing songs by legendary artists that never get played on the radio, not to mention transcendent live recordings and covers that have made me hear so many of the songs I love in a whole new way. I see invisible threads of influence and inspiration linking artists like Joni Mitchell to Regina Spektor, Johnny Cash to Arcade Fire, Yaz to Frou Frou and on and on in one big interconnected rock and roll web.
I feel so fortunate to have the opportunity to host a show like this where I get to try to pull all those threads together on a station as cool as KCSN in a city as breathtaking and heartbreaking as Los Angeles. I am one lucky girl.
Thanks for listening!
Rosanna
