Hi. We are the Defending Champions. We play music intended for the mobilization of the human. So check out our shows, put on your dancing shoes (or take your uncomfortable ones off) and set forth in making your mediocre evening a deluxe affair. The Defending Champions were formed in 2007 out of a legendary dream schemed up by Matt Ryan and Dean Nevolis after their long-time band, The Miasmics, broke up. Along the way they found Matt Schoenebaum(sax), Jovan Alvarez(trumpet), Shawn Fichtner(drums), Eric Swiontkowski(bass), and Jenny Hoatson(vox). For the past 3 years this band has been building a solid following for itself in the tri-state area and their first full length album, "The Defending Champions...of the legend convention" has been devoured by it's fans and is selling at every show. They've performed at well known venues such as The Knitting Factory, Yogi Berra Stadium, Maxwells, Kennys Castaways, The Bitter End, Bowery Poetry club and the Crash Mansion. They've also had the pleasure of opening for headliners such as: WAR, The Smithereens, The Aggrolites, The Pietasters and more! With their first full-length release under their belt, a new feature in Relix magazines "On the Rise" column, and a song featured in the new award-winning indie movie "Sneakers&Soul", The Defending Champions are ready to hit hard in 2012, so put on your dancin' shoes and get ready!
