Remember when Country Music was tough and dangerous? Hank Williams O.D-ing, George Jones driving lawnmowers, Willie Nelson, Roger Miller, Johnny Cash Patsy Cline, Gram Parsons - wild, colourful people making great, edgy music. You don’t find that sort of spirit very often in today’s blander music world…unless you go see the Dennis boys band…even people who don’t like country still dig the Dennis Boys.
They play country music the way it’s meant to be played - gritty and aggressive with tight arrangements, great chops and beautiful singing. The result owes as much to Led Zeppelin as it does to Hank Williams and Elvis, its unmistakable country twang tempered by vicious guitars and a solid groove that’s flipped wigs in city venues as righteously as in the Muswellbrook pub.
They’ve worked up a set of original songs that burn their own brand on the genre.
“It’s ball-tearing country rock and roll as savage as anything we can pull out”, says Mick Daley, of the Re-mains, who’ve played with the boys in Sydney and Tamworth.
Eight generations of Antiene heritage, the Dennis family are full time cowboys, truck drivers, coal miners or in Leah’s case jewellers. But their music is a genetic force and when they’re on stage, they own that venue.
Made up of Dennis siblings Leah on vocals and guitar, Lyle on vocals and guitar, Erle on vocals, bass and harmonica, Shane on vocals and guitar and close friend of the family Dave Burke on drums.
Experience the Dennis Boys Band and remember what it’s like to be knocked out cold and enjoy it. The Dennis Boys are the real thing!
*Billygoat & The Mongrels will not be supporting us at the Lansdowne Hotel show. Support bands are The Green Mohair Suits, The Dunhill Blues and The Handsome Young Strangers.
