The DesChamps Band was formed shortly after the passing of legendary country musician, Champ Hood. Uncle Walt's Band, a group native to Spartanburg, SC, boasted Champ as member, alongside Walter Hyatt and David Ball. Champ's nephew, Marshall Hood, started the band in March of 2002 as a tribute to Uncle Walt's Band. With the addition of Rob Teter and Jeff Brown, the band began playing small scale shows and private parties around Spartanburg, South Carolina. A year later, looking for a more intimate and tighter vocal section, the band added violinist, Matt Parks. Although the group was created in tribute to Uncle Walt's, you can expect an extensive set of original songs.
The DesChamps Band currently tours regionally, and is a local phenomenon for its truly original sound, including exceptional instrumental and vocal work, rare for musicians of such a young age. Their truly original sound is being hailed as: "Hard-to-pin-down alt-country, with infusions of Jazz, Bluegrass, and swing." Texas performer Lyle Lovett is quoted saying: "It is such a comfort to see (Champ and Walter) live on through these young musicians"
The Band just recently released its 14 song album, produced by Marshall Tucker Band alumnus and accomplished producer, Paul T. Riddle. The Band has also had the honor of playing with performers such as Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder, Junior Brown, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, The Del McCoury Band, and David Ball.
