A dazzling 15-strong collective of talented and innovative, multi-instrumentalists, vocalists and composers, The Destroyers have taken Europe's insatiable appetite for all things Klezmer, ripped the clichés apart, and developed their own brand of Gypsy folk music with a gothic turbo charge!
Their riotous stage-show has captivated audiences around the country, sweeping them into a frenzy of uninhibited dancing and bonhomie. In the last few years they have built up a substantial following across a series of festivals and gigs including Glastonbury's Avalon stage, Bestival, Larmer Tree, Open-House festival (N.I.), Sidmouth Folk Festival, London's Barbican centre, Stoke Newington festival and South Bank Centre promenade events.
The raggle-taggle consort have also crafted auditorium shows; writing and performing musical homages alongside classic silent film, enacting psychedelic fairy-tale pantomimes and storming stages with Indian Dhol-drummers and Sufi dancers in their midsts.
Close-up and dangerous, their blazing passion for performance and combined musical influences creates a swirling spectacle of sensation and sound. From crowd anthems to Balkan melancholy, socially topical poetry to phatback grooves, the band knows how to take the pulse of any crowd and dispense the appropriate medicine to lift their spirits, set their feet dancing and unite them in call and response. Only the dead can refuse to dance!
