Sounds Like
We sound like a cross between Charlie Poole, the Skillet Lickers and the ramones. With a touch of Arthur Smith and Uncle Dave Macon.
The Dickel Brothers are a bunch
of misfits trying there best not to fit
in. The band started sometime in the 90's(god knows when exactly) and
has had eight members over the years settling on the current lineup of
four. We wield an Axe, Fiddle, Banjo and the enormous Banjo Bass. The
type of music we play is of the older variety that you might find on
vinyl, shellac and yes even wax. We call it Old Time Music. The kind of
music you might listen to on the radio in the 40's and even earlier on
an old Gramophone in the parlour. It was also played by the common
folks themselves. Homemade music. Some tunes are handed down and some
are from old sheet music. We don't write much of the music we play, but
we have done so in the Past. We are Currently playing in and around
Portland, Or and hope to put a new record out this winter. We hope to
see you at an upcoming show and be prepared to shake a foot. We'll roll
the carpets back for you.
"Ticklin' The Strings" by Sweet Hollywaiians
Amazing Japanese hot string band playing 1920's, 30's, 40's style hawaiian, swing, calypso, blues, italian music and originals, featuring vintage instruments.3 songs with Robert Armstrong and Tony Marcus(from Robert Crumb and His Cheap Suit Serenaders)
"The Sweet Hollywaiians have probably the best feel for this 20's music of any string band working today. They manage the rare feat of sounding relaxed even when their playing is hot, are top notch musicians with tasteful arrangements and a full, rich, warm sound.Plus, they have a nice gamut of tunes, from King Nawahi to Giovanni Vicari to Bobby Leecan. See them live, if you can, for an unforgettable experience. If you can't, buy their Cds!" ~ Terry Zwigoff

Charles Dickens began pasting labels on blaking pots. The tragedy of his first love penetrated the depths of his soul, and converted him into one of the world's truly great authors. That tragedy produced, first, David Copperfield, then a succession of other works that made this a richer and better world for all who read his books. Dissappointment over love affairs, generally has the effect of driving men to drink, and women to ruin; and this because most people never never learn the art of transmuting their strongest emotions into dreams of a constructive nature.

only at Dante's this April 7th, 2009!
let's party and raise some money for one of Portland's old homegirls who's living in Istanbul, Turkey and who has recently undergone some serious medical crap and needs help! you can donate directly here: http://cyclecide.com/ratgirl/
she was experiencing pain and bleeding and was diagnosed with 2 tumors and a cyst and then her appendix got a perforation on it and she had to have emergency surgery for that on top of everything else. when the doctors cut her open they discovered that her entire reproductive system was infected, they literally found her to be full of PUS and had she waited one more day she probably would not have made it. fortunately, much thanks to her tough constitution and tenacious grip on life and the Turkish medical system, she's well on the mend. but she's still facing many overwhelming financial burdens and definitely needs our help!
please forward this to any mutual friends and hope to see ya there!
