Writing to music is almost as important to me, because good music tells a good story. A good novel or movie each carry a bit of everything if they're done well. I usually rely on older music to write by. The Stooges, hard blues or classic country to metal to speed metal to atmospheric sounds. As a writer, I'm lucky enough to be handed a lot of music to check out. Mostly I give it a listen, but usually once is good enough, or sadly once is good enough. When I heard The Disciples of Rock and Roll, the feeling of discovering a new permanence came back to me, the rush of it. They play with heart and close to the bones, that good feeling you get in your gut when something has a bit of everything, and the talent, though rare and exceptional here, is so refined it becomes merely tonal in the music of The Disciples, and like all great works of art, it seems effortless. But the rawness and the energy level of this true rock and roll is perfect in all it's nuances. It's fast and slow and beautiful and ugly, but just as important as any of that, it's addictive. About time I found something from today that moves the keys along.
