Welcome to the newest EP of THE DISCREET SOUND OF MACHINES. All these songs I recorded from summer 2008 until summer 2010 just on two places: in this hilly region in southern Germany I call home and in this warm region in the south of France I also call home. I did all the composing of the songs and later then all the recording of the instruments. I did the singing so far as it worked quite as well and the same in playing the instruments with little exceptions as noted below. I also shot this self portrait for the front cover. I hope it’s good enough for not putting the cover upside down. This EP contains seven songs and starts with "Dying For A Life" - a very old one I played with my early 80’s band PRIVATE AZZ 1981-1983. A wild young love song with very freshly-adolescent metaphors. I kept the composition as it was - just recorded it a little more modern. "If This Thin Skin" is the newest composition and is about sexual abuse of children. In detail: the consideration of the victims closely after the discovery by police. The next two songs I was playing with my long time “rehearsal” band DOGGIES ON HOLIDAY. "His Kind" is about two lovers in two different buildings - the exploration of each other and the way of their communication. "It Fades Away" is about a nightmare. In their band history it ended a little fatal: the band broke up while the recording of the album where these songs should be placed on was nearly finished. "The Fishing Wives" is about irish housewives managing their lives alone without their husbands and their sons lost in the resistance. And what would happen if you could form your surroundings with the power of your mind? No idea? Try "Living Tool Of Thoughts". It helps you a little in finding out... And the closing song "Borderland" is a small picture of an intimate moment of two lovers that won’t stay together for long. I hope you will enjoy them all. Guests on this tiny album: ALISON COLLINS - she did the backing vocals on The Fishing Wives. TOM SCHAFFERT - he played the main guitars on Living Tool Of Thoughts (including this “carlos-like” solo ... Chapeau!)
