"The Djembabes" are a local group of 12 Austin drummers, singers and dancers, dedicated to the joy and inspiration of hand drumming, African music and the possibilites created by sharing music in ways which allow interaction and the unfolding of a vibrant Community Spirit. Sharing rhythm is our passion and our dream is to help create a world of beauty, harmony, understanding and mutual respect by celebrating the sanctity of all life through music, song and dance. We believe music is our universal language and rhythm is our mother tongue! We also believe that, through sharing music, we can replace fear with courage and dissolve the barriers that separate us and alienate us from each other and our common humanity.
Our intention is that our rhythms are always in celebration of diversity, create bridges to understanding and speak as instruments of peace, healing and joy! We play with our hearts in our hands in hopes of touching the hearts of the people who are listening. We hope our music wakes up and inspires the creative musical spirit which lives in each of us, reminding us of our deep connection to one another and to all of life.
The Djembabes often play for community events in keeping with our musical and spiritual philosophy, as we believe our music is in many ways a community service that can unify, inspire and energize groups and, thus, raise the collective consciousness! We also perform for schools and churches, as well as private gatherings, celebrations and circles. We are available for private ceremonies, celebrations, rites of passage, weddings, birthdays and special events. We are available for performances for large organizations, including the option of facilitated teambuilding Drum events, as well as entertainment and music for dancing and letting go! We know that if our audiences enjoy our music even half as much as we do, it will be off the charts!
Thank you for this opportunity to share what we love.
In peace through rhythm...
