Kick-started in his early teens by hearing sounds like that of the Roland Sh101 analogue synth and tracks like Herby Hancock’s ‘Rocket’ DJ Spim’s passion for music has defined his world ever since. After an affair with the Hip Hop Electro scene his affection was drawn to the rise of the Breakbeat driven electronically produced sounds. So raving from 89 onwards was inevitable and pulling him headlong into a dance music obsession. Not long after getting his first set of 1210’s in 94 he began to get frustrated whilst waiting to mix in the next tune in. This led him to use that extra time between mixes to practice scratching and other tricks used by turntablists. “What is a DJ if he can’t scratch !” His sound has developed through many genres. Oldskool, Funk, Acid Jazz, jungle, techno, intelligent, house, breaks into an uplifting, jazzy and soulful liquid drum and bass vibe with vocals, rolling beats and phat bass lines.

After getting his first set of 1210's in 94 he has played alongside DJ’s like Grooverider, Hype, Nookie, Bryan Gee, Shades of Rhythm, Utah Saints, Drummatic Twins, John b, Greenfly and many more. After a long distance residency at Subfactory UK in his home town of Reading he waited patiently for Jersey to be ready for the brighter side of Drum & Bass. With the help of Greenfly and Terminalstate, Subfactory jumped the channel and touched down at the end of 2007 as Jersey’s first liquid dnb night. Accompanied by The Subfactory Show on Bassdrive.com Spim is grinning like a Cheshire Cat as he spreads the Subfactory flavours to music lovers near and far.

He has been producing tracks for a few years now ranging in styles from House to Drum and Bass and collaborating with the likes of Greenfly,Terminalstate, Richard Eager (Insole) and HifiSushi. With his first release as Sub C.O.C on The Family Recordings. Check out his remix of Flat Eric

With a Dj slot at Jerseylive09 alongside Andy C, London Elektricity and Basement Jaxx 2009 is shaping up to be a busy year for him.
