The Smiths having a bar room punch up with Queens of the Stone Age, whilst Franz Ferdinand and Radiohead look on with glee and a resurrected Johnny Thunders and Ian Curtis get it on in the corner... (ooh er, missus)...
The Dreamt are an 'indie rock' band hailing from Edinburgh, Scotland. They consist of Maitiu Corbett (drums/vocals/keys), Andrew Hill (vocals/guitar/keys), Stefan Huth (guitar) and Alasdair Macinnes (bass guitar/vocals). Whilst Andrew, Alasdair and Stefan had been playing 'music' together since their early teens, the band was not officially formed until early 2005, in order to play their first-ever gig which would see them support schoolmates Callel. Without a full-time drummer, gigging was thin on the ground until their first recording session later that year, their first work to feature the musician who would turn out to be the completing quarter of the band, Maitiu. Since then, they have played in many venues in their historic hometown, such as Subway Cowgate, Forest Café, Theatre Workshop, including headlining slots at Henry's Cellar, Nektar, The Exchange, The Wee Red Bar and Cabaret Voltaire. They have also, thus far, played Rockers, The Box and The 13th Note in Glasgow and hope to play outside of Scotland in the near future.
Never keen to pigeon-hole themselves (although happy to confirm they do like the 'rock' music), The Dreamt cite many disparate influences between them, including: Radiohead, Nick Cave, Pulp, Jimi Hendrix, Nine Inch Nails, Primal Scream, The Smiths, Scott Walker and Queens of the Stone Age. The songs cover love, sex, murder, suicide, religion, isolation, alcohol abuse, political upheaval, the end of the world and regretful liaisons in dingy indie discos. Such themes are often set to a heady collision of chiming guitar, blues-infused riffs, disco basslines and experimental rhythms. The live performances can be irreverent and intense, sombre and frenetic (sometimes all at the same time), but they always hope to entertain and pride themselves on their professional approach to putting on the best show they can for any audiences they have the pleasure of playing to.
