"Aretha Franklin once sang "I got me a man named Dr. Feelgood and, oh yeah, that man takes care of all my pains and ills." Well, with the help of a little song, dance, and some alcohol, BLAKE EVAN SHERMAN seems to be the good man relieveing peoples ills with his new weekly revue entitled, yes, DR. FEELGOOD. The idea of the show began while working the door at the HELL'S KITCHEN lounge THERAPY where Sherman not only saw a variety of amazing shows (and became a regular singing talent on many of them,) he also found himself taking on the role of a reluctant shrink. "Customers would sit and smoke at the door and tell me their drama," Sherman says, "And I would listen and try to cheer them up with a song or dance. In all fairness, the sign at the door reads, 'THERAPY!' I found an obvious parallel." But, sunny Sherman began his singing and acting far beyond the walls of Therapy and their Rorschach ink blot canvases, perfoming all over the city for the past ten years in a varitey of commercials, cabaret, and club acts (including the Off-Broadway cult hit THE DONKEY SHOW). He also had feature parts in music videos, most notably the dancing janitor in CASCADA's EVERYTIME WE TOUCH and the short order cook in PEPPERMINT's SERVIN' IT UP. Sherman aptly debuted his show last Monday with BASKET CASE by GREEN DAY. Joining him on his psychiatrist couch (yes, he has one on stage!) was AMERICAN IDOL'S DIANA DE GARMO and MAD TV-turned HAIRSPRAY-Broadway-musical-star PAUL VOGT. With a dual focus on comedy and performance for both established crooners and new-comers looking to flaunt their talent, the resident analyst has plenty of stars lined up for appointments including LAURA BELL BUNDY and her co-stars in LEGALLY BLONDE: THE MUSICAL, PROJECT RUNNWAY'S winning designer JAY McCARROLL, and summer singing sensations TEVIN CAMPBELL, KELLY KING, WENDY HO, and rapper CAZWELL. Starting in the city as a musical theater perfomer, Sherman says, "I found my voice and re-sparked a passion for the music growing up. I have always considered mysoef a rock-and-roll kind of guy at heart.
