Slow Hope Parade was written and recorded in NY over the course of a nine month period between (and during...) blackouts, benders, moments of bliss, philosophical isolation and spiritual derailment (by Kevin McGinnis ex- Ursula Points). Ninety-five percent of this record was recorded in one take straight through. Limited punch-ins, editing, etc. The only gear used in the making were a drum machine, m-box, laptop, acoustic guitar, one microphone (secret weapon), kurzweil keyboard, and a cello. Carl Glanville (U2 engineer/mixer) lent his grandness on 'Sara Los Angeles' & '...and shorelines'. All songs were mixed by Alex Newport at Future Shock Studio. Mastered by Jeff Lipton at Peerless Mastering.
REVIEWS of SLOW HOPE PARADE:

The Drug Models Love is essentially Kevin McGinnis - this month’s pro-
digious New York talent. ‘Slow Hope Parade’ was apparently created
amidst a backdrop of “blackouts, benders and spiritual derailment”,
and this probably accounts for its unhinged, schizoid feel. However, this
is somehow an ultimately coherent album. Largely recorded in a single
take, ‘Slow Hope Parade’ unfurls in a myriad of directions: ‘Wrapped
Up In Honey’ throbs in all the right places while ‘Heir Apparent’ fizzes
with Fender feedback. But by the final track, the delicate electronic pop
of ‘Myth Glorious’, McGinnis seems to have found a transcendental
solace. Through the musical haze, The Drug Models Love makes a
whole lotta sense. - John Freeman
WHisperin & HOllerin In a time when the popularity of the download and of shuffle-mode listening is having a detrimental effect on the concept of the album, I would offer 'Slow Hope Parade' in defence of the album experience. There isn't a real standout track on here to speak of: instead, the tracks exist in sequence to create a unified whole. And it's pretty damn good, I can tell you. - Christopher Nosnibor
PennyBlackMusic:
Essentially a solo act, but also occasionally a band, the Drug Models Love is about to release its debut album, 'Slow Hope Parade'. Confessional and lo-fi in tone, with a scuzzy and ragged but also euphonic sound, 'Slow Hope Parade' captures the sudden mood swings of large city and especially Big Apple living and a range of emotions from the ecstasy of being in love to alcohol-induced despair and the numbness of feeling isolated from everyone else. - John Clarkson

...Songs such as 'Sara Los Angeles' and 'Wrapped Up In Honey' ultimately lead you to fall in love with not only McGinnis’ music but himself as the disillusioned protagonist. You can’t escape the sensibility of his music as he bears his soul and fights his way through the everyday living that is the urban man's struggle. Both poetic and poignant, McGinnis delivers his music in a way that is accessible yet heartfelt but not wholly contrived. His musings are cathartic and yearning, with such a broken voice and honest lyrics, it doesn’t require any more. It’s striped back electroacoustic pop.
IRELAND: The Guardian by Nadene Ryan
...The catchy Last First Light begins with a breezy but powerful intro “this is my life, it’s all I can know” and includes the magical image of “fires that burn on angel’s wings”. The sound is soothingly soft and laid-back. Sometimes a City Street has a beautiful string arrangement supported by Kevin’s hypnotizing voice; it’s about urban living.
A darker side emerges in Slow Hope Parade. It has a mysterious beat and explores the “disarray” all around. And Shorelines begs “Let them shape me, suddenly erase me.” It’s filled with wonder and magic.
