The Drunken Monkeys are as fun and feisty as you’d expect. Just look at the name! Fun? Hell, yeah. The Drunken Monkeys are more fun than a barrel … OK, nevermind that. But suffice it to say, if you want to have a good time at a punk rock show, then this is the band to watch. But it’s not all giggles, you know. These guys are for real and have some attitude to shove in your face if you don’t take them seriously. OK, don’t take them seriously, per se, but listen to what they have to say. There’s plenty of commentary on societal BS in the midst of all the madness if you’ll just pay attention. PAY ATTENTION!
Music = Awesome
The Drunken Monkeys have the simplest but truest philosophy when it comes to music. “Music equals awesome!” declares Mike Acevedo of The Drunken Monkeys. “Music makes us feel like the rest of the world doesn’t matter.” You can dig through the band’s songs and find plenty of middle fingers to the world’s ills but by the very act of musically offending the status quo, The Drunken Monkeys are disregarding it, blowing it off and setting out to forget about all that crap and get drunk in a vat full of punk rock!
Earning It
Paying dues is inspiration, says Acevedo. Some people think they’ve got it coming. But the only thing people like that have coming to them is failure. You gotta work for it, Acevedo asserts. “Our influences are successful bands that went through what we went through, successful bands that at one point were where we are. Nothing was handed to them; they had to earn it.” The great thing about the dues they’re paying is that The Drunken Monkeys are having a ton of fun doing it and they’re reveling in their favorite thing in the world – music! And if you can’t feel that fun and love of music in the band’s songs, then your heart probably isn’t beating. So you should go to the doctor, or something.
The Artist at Work
The Drunken Monkeys will be heading out on tour in 2009 for the EastCoast Summer tour. Meanwhile, The Drunken Monkeys are almost done recording their debut album, set for release in Fall 2008, just prior to tour commencement. The Drunken Monkeys, says Acevedo, are looking forward to touring, since it gets them closer to the fans. “We appreciate our fans and their support,” he says. “We couldn’t have done it without them and we hope they continue to show the same support.” The Drunken Monkeys are currently working with A&R Select, the world’s leading independent artist development firm, based out of Los Angeles, CA.
“The Drunken Monkeys are raw and rude and those are five star qualities with this instant-fun band!” – A&R Select
