Sounds Like
“… a gem of the Wausau scene, the Dunderchiefs. This band is a musicians’ favorite, with admirers from the young guys to the old dudes at the Intermission jam sessions. The music is psychedelic with a taste of metal. Imagine the Beatles with the most tripped out Jimi Hendrix, and you get something like the Dunderchiefs. They’re a free, jazzy band with chunky-flavored songs at the heart of the jams.”
- Dino Corvino, City Pages, May 15-22, 2008
It began smoldering from bored restlessness during the winter of two thousand and four. Three individuals came together in an effort to weld together everything they knew: screaming guitars, wailing vocals, bass that makes you groove and drums that shake your foundations. These new friends threw tradition to the vultures and decided to take the paths chosen by the likes of Bandits of the Acoustic Revolution and the Mars Volta. The concept was simple: why limit one’s band to the likeness of only one genre? Too many times have we seen bands of considerable talent and presence fall into the obscurity and facelessness of infinite competition simply because of close-mindedness to other musical styles to the point where it begins to seem bands are repeating songs when in fact they’re all supposedly “unique.” And too many times have we been witness to the usual local concert-goers deciding to spend the night in because all bands sound the same. When the Dunderchiefs made their way out of the musical primordial filth, they set forth to change all of that.
Thanks: To all of you who have checked out our shows. We would be nothing without you.
