Sounds Like
Inspired original music complete with Heavy chunk, MoveIt! parts, quiet grooves to lull you into a state of warm-bath luxury, and always returns to the energy that makes your knees start to bend and whips you into a frenzy of total abandon that makes you disregard life and limbs for the sake of moving with the music.
The industrial boat yard of Half Moon Bay, California is the ideal place for The Dust to tear apart their practice space. Growing up in a small fishing town on a steady diet of metal and punk is what Matt Allen (bass), Josh Jasperson (guitar), and Brian Overfelt (vocals) have in common. Beginning in 1997, these three members of the The Dust started a project where they played many shows. Within a year of performing, they opened for Incubus at the Cocodrie and Papa Roach at the Maritime Hall.
Even though the project ended, the friendships never did-- thus the possibility of a future band. A few years later, a new band emerged. They took the stage for the first time in May of 2003. They have played with several drummers over the years. With the recruitment of Rich Perez on drums in 2009, The Dust was reborn yet again. The Dust has released a three-song demo, a full length album entitled Twenty-two, and Flashpoint/Anthems for Logan, a six-song EP. The sound is heavy while remaining dynamic. When you stand in front of their stage, you are struck by one thought: These guys are tight. With strong personal lyrics, catchy riffs, and a heaviness all their own, The Dust strives to entertain and inspire all who listen.
The Dust have gained the support and respect of their local scene and received the strong embrace of the worldwide skateboard community. After getting critical acclaim in Lowcard Magazine, Thrasher Magazine used their song Individuals in the recent video release, Brutality. Juice Magazine feartured them in the June issue's "Dopest in the Deck" section. Most recently, Sirius Radio Faction 28 played their song, Bleed, on their DIY show. The Dust are poised for a breakthrough as they prepare to enter the studio to breath life into another great album due out in December, 2009.
