One look at the cover of The Eddies' debut CD "In The Sunshine" leaves you wondering just exactly what their influences are: Mod? Powerpop? Surf? Punk? In skillfully combining components of each of these distinct and influential styles, The Eddies succeed in intertwining the basic elements of harmony, melody, and the inescapable complexities of love.
Like their name (The Eddies) suggests, their catchy music hooks you and draws you in, completely. After swirling within a rich mixture of different sounds and textures, you are then left in a refreshing state of both surprise and pleasure.
The band's music can be characterized by their short, memorable, feel-good songs. Upon listening to the music, you can't help but put yourself into the familiar feelings and situations of the songs. Their lyrics are about everyday occurrences that somehow transcend the mere notes and words to touch raw emotional nerves. They make you reflect on circumstances that you can easily find yourself in through the seamless fusion of vivid imagery and expressive composition.
The "In The Sunshine" CD was brought to life through the efforts of legendary musical engineer and producer, Earle Mankey, who is famous for his collaborations with The Beach Boys, The Cramps, Concrete Blonde, and The Adicts among others. His tremendous skill, artfullness, and insight added greatly to the brilliance of the CD.
All in all, the music has universal themes and elements that seem to extend beyond traditional genres of age, class, race, and music. It's difficult to label The Eddies under just one style because they are distinct yet familiar. They embody everything you could hope to discover in a song--fluid harmonies, powerful chords, exhilarating energy, and expressive feelings. One listen and you'll soon discover that you've been caught and you're hooked.
The Eddies are definitely creating exciting new music for the 21st century.
