Review: The Electric Kools
Blowout @ Chorlton Irish Club 27/5/2009
The Electric Kools were up first, rattling their stadium rock medicine sticks, drums reverbing hard as the blood pumping in a serial killer's ears, guitars whining with epic intensity. They moved around somewhere in the space between ego- less waves of shamanic noise and nasal reptilian cocaine cockwash. It's tricky to wade those waters and keep your balls dry, but they kept everything nicely weighted. You got the feeling they might be happier if they could exist a reverberated third of a second behind themselves, making music for spooky forests, but spooky forests with generators and halogen bulbs. "Socially acceptable darkness", Lou said.

Review: The Electric Kools
The Box in Crew 14/8/2009
The Electric Kools came next. They opened with strong, strung-out chords - their musical recipe probably includes three grams of 1960s and a tab of pyschedelia - which immediately demanded attention.
The drums, bass and guitar come together well, creating a cohesive sound. Extracting sitar-like noises from the guitars, while remaining fast and rocky they create a drawn-out and spacey soundscape, akin to late-era Beatles or Kula Shaker. Occasional use of effects on the vocals contributes to the heard-from-a-distance, trippy sound.
Late-on in the set, another influence appears, with the vocals referencing South Asian music. I can’t quite pin it down, but I’m thinking classical Indian chanting by way of 1960s Bollywood soundtrack. The singer has a Roger Daltrey circa 1968 haircut, always good to see a bit of classic retro.
The Electric Kools' set might benefit from more changes in pace, but I definitely enjoyed them, there was energy, creativity and good interaction with the crowd. They've inspired me to re-read The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test.
Demo Review: The Electric Kools
Chimp Magazine Sep/Oct Issue
Whether The Electric Kools are, as they say on their handwrittern press release, “Twisted Mancunian Ambassadors of psychedelic trip blus” remains to be seen. Certainly all the essential psychelements are there: wah wah, tape loops, droning trip laden vocals and delay, but I’m not sure whether you would class them as “Psychedelic”, maybe they would be if you’ve dropped a tab of acid, but then even Michael Buble could possibly blow your mind.
Three cans of beer was all I could muster for this journey but the results were positive. “Ians Narcotic Affair” the first track, has a certain charm and “Last Ticket”s Lep Zep workout comes with a snarling Manc delivery. Final track, “Chaos in Desolation” is underwhelming but ta for the ride, perhaps next time I’ll visit my local dealer.

You have come into contact with rare recordings made by The Electric Kools-Twisted Mancunian ambassadors of psychedelic trip-blues.
Established as a studio project in early 2007, the band expanded into a more edgy live outfit in mid 2008 and these recordings are the bastard offspring of such an illicit illicit liaison,
There are bleak times when we find Chaos in Desolation. When Frustration boils to surface, music appears as our only salvation and the Last Ticket to an all-natural non-herbal Narcotic Affair.
