Rock CAN roll, Inc--., is a volunteer, non profit hunger relief organization and think tank.
Their mission is to be a source that continually restocks the shelves of local emergency food agencies that provide food and basic necessities to people in need.
They collaborate with rock concerts, schools, corporations, and private individuals to collect canned and non-perishable food (and basic provisions) for distribution to local agencies and into the hands of children, seniors and families who live with hunger and in poverty.
The rock CAN roll-- organization is always looking for new collaborators, volunteers, supporters and friends.

East Northport, LI - The 16th Annual Elvis Show will take place on January 30th, 2010 at Hennesey's Bar & Grill, located in Huntington Station, NY. The Elvis Show features over 30 Long Island musicians in a tribute to Elvis Presley. Admission is $10 along with a healthy and nutritious canned food (or any non-perishable) donation. All proceeds will to aid local food banks and outreach centers.
The shows founder and host, Steven Prisco said that the need to lend a helping hand is greater than ever this year. "In these troubled times with more people out of work than ever before the food pantries are finding themselves unable to keep up with the demand. The Elvis Show may be a drop in the bucket, but it does show how you can make a big difference in someone's life with just a little effort."
The Elvis Show will team up again this year with rock Can roll to help collect and distribute the food and proceeds from the show. rock CAN roll, Inc., is a volunteer, non profit, hunger relief organization committed to restocking the dwindling shelves of local food pantries, soup kitchens, safe homes and shelters. The concept is simple, the rewards are immense!

GARY JUDE ANDERSON: I was saddened to hear of the passing of Gary Jude on Feb. 14th, 2008. An Elvis show All-Star, Gary had been with us since the beginning. A unique individual, Gary's passion for music was inspirational and his performances were always a highlight of the show. I am glad that he and touched base in time for him to be part of this year's show and that we had the chance to hang at the diner afterwards. He will be missed. UPDATE! LEE TOBIA: We were sad to hear the news of the sudden passing of Lee Tobia, an Elvis Show alumni and local rock legend. Lee was a member of The Bloodless Pharaohs (where he replaced Brian Setzer) and the Roustabouts, one of Long Island's most rocking bands. He will be missed and our thoughts are with his family and friends.

Plus we raised over 400 pounds of food and over $1250 in cash, all which went to RockCANRoll and will be distributed to those in need. The Elvis Show was born in a bar called New York Avenue at a Sunday night gig by The Purple Gang that happened to fall on Elvis Presley's birthday. The Purple Gang always enjoyed having guests from the audience come up and sing, so on this night they asked everyone to sing an Elvis tune. It was such a good time that the next year they decided to do it again - and in the spirit of Elvis, asked for food donations for the needy.
As years went by, more and more people took part and seven years later the show moved "up-town" to a theater for three years where it grew to a production featuring over 50 musicians, singers, and dancers.
After the tenth show we went on hiatus due to a number of reasons - no need to recap them, let's just quote Elvis, "if it ceases to be fun, then we'll stop doing it."
Years went by but the spirit of the Elvis Show would not die. In 2006 we put on a "throw and go" version of the Elvis Show and the result was a good night of rockin' music and the realization that the show must go on!

It's really hard to believe that there are people going to bed hungry on Long Island. Hunger seems like a problem for some third-world country or maybe in the cities but not here where there are endless malls, whatever-Marts and fast food joints lined up from one end to the other. But it is true and surprisingly, it may be closer to home than you think. Hunger does not belong to the homeless, in fact I was recently told by a local food pantry how more and more working families are seeking out their help. The cost of living is so high here, that after a lower income family pays the bills there just isn't enough left to put food on the table.
The Elvis Show is one night a year and what we accomplish is only a drop in the bucket. The problem is there 365 days a year. So please remember those who are in need the next time you are doing your grocery shopping. It would be a good thing to pick up a few cans to drop off at your local food bank. Even the smallest donation helps. We really need to start getting more involved on the local level. Visit your local pantry and find out about what they do and how you can help. You'll be surprised how better it makes you feel to take an active part in your community. That's it - public service message finished
