It doesn’t matter that they’re based in St. Louis. It doesn’t matter that it’s 2009. It doesn’t even matter that their music sounds like a blend of the best of the ’80s, ’90s and ’00s, yet the song that's a fan favorite yearns for the pioneers of ’75.
What matters instead is that The Orbz craft woven, entertaining and addictive pop-wave post-punk rock music. Melodically, the music of The Orbz invites obsession, movement, dance; lyrically, it’s contemplative, introspective, inspiring. Says frontman Jason Robinson, “Sometimes there comes a song where you can’t separate yourself from it; it gets lodged in your brain somehow, and you can’t stop thinking about it. That song. I want to write that song.”
“We operate under the belief that everybody has a story to be told and heard,” affirms guitarist Ken Adelman. “My main concern is to write what is true to me and express my thoughts into music. Music should resemble one’s life.”
As Jason Robinson stepped into the vocalist role, “I was given the reins and told to re-imagine them as my own,” he says now, embracing The Orbz’ constant challenge: Writing music in different formats than yesterday. “Each day,” says Ken, “it’s like having more paint brushes and paint to use.”
The guys are about to celebrate the self-release of their sophomore CD, Stop! The Reporters Will See. Whereas the upcoming album is about being sick of the state of things, says Jeremy, “our brand new material is about moving forward with our own designs for the future.”
“The music industry is squeezing stations to produce more with less,” Jason says. “The Orbz don’t even fit into this. We’re total indie in the old sense of the word: We do our own website, we do our own t-shirts, we do our own posters, and our first full-length album is set to be self-released.”
Says Jeremy, “We’re non-hipsters playing hip indie music, almost by happenstance.”
“2009 is our year,” grins Jason. “Just wait.”

Come catch a show and cop some of the Orbz buzz… you'll be hooked!
Bands We're proud to say we've shared the stage with:
You guys know that I always tell you the truth when it comes to your shows. So I gotta tell you guys...the reconfigured lineup is quite impressive.
You guys have a knack for finding great drummers. Dave brings a sense of rock power while keeping his cool. Damn...he's a talented SOB...drums, guitar, vocals...impressive!
The new songs sound like they have elements of lo-fi, Wire and Jet. Very cool...I was totally digging it. They don't sound as complicated either. Not that technically advanced songs are bad...but sometimes keeping it simple is best.
The only "problem" I noticed was that a couple of the old songs sound odd with just one guitar. That might just be something that the listener needs to get used to, though.
Carey is a great guitarist, but the 4-piece shows how good Ken is. The rhythm guitarist may be the most under-appreciated member of a band.
Jason and Jeremy sounded good as well...if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
I know how much you guys like Way Out...and it's a cool place. But seriously...you sound soooo much better at Off Broadway. Jason didn't have to strain his voice and you could understand a lot of the lyrics. Plus it's no smoking...that's one of the biggest drawbacks to Way Out.
So there you have it and there you are...great show guys!
