   About The Espy Kitchen
Melbourne's iconic home of live music now has a stunning kitchen and bar area and is now able to truly offer the whole package; great food, reasonable prices, killer location and the same relaxed Espy vibe.

The Espy Kitchen & Function Rooms can cater for any event. The Espy is THE place to party!

The Espy Kitchen has two levels, with a mezzanine area seating 85 people or 150 standing, a balcony and full length windows looking out over the Esplanade, providing one of the best views of the bay as the sun sets over St Kilda. The Mezzanine also features a huge window overlooking the famous Front Bar stage, which for major events can be opened, literally joining the Mezzanine to the Front Bar vibe. Downstairs the Espy Kitchen caters for another 50 people.

The Espy Kitchen menu has something to suit all tastes and budgets, with a great mix of delicious Asian rice dishes, Steak, Fish or Soup of the day, Salads, Pastas and the traditional 'pub grub' favourites as well as a selection of smaller popular 'Mezze' style dishes to share. The menu encompasses something for everyone including a hearty weekend breakfast menu for those recovering from the night before or those just happy to relax and peruse the paper with a coffee.

The existence of The Espy Kitchen ensures that patrons have a place to come a grab a quick bite before seeing a band, or just relax and enjoy the fantastic views over St.Kilda beach while being part of a thriving live music venue.

The Gershwin Room is the former grand dining room of the original Esplanade Hotel recently underwent extensive restoration, returning the hallowed stage to its original splendour and majesty and breathing new life into this room.

Time had taken its toll on this Grande Dame of the stage, and so The Esplanade Hotel’s owners undertook the massive task of extensively renovating and upgrading the space to once again thrust it under the spot-light as Australia’s premier room.

And more importantly, the Gershwin Room has been returned to its original vision of splendour and majesty, its intricate period details breathed new life. From the incredibly elaborate ceiling which has been painstakingly hand-finished, the gold leaf walls and rich, hand-rendered motifs, to the open fireplace, the Gershwin Room is now undoubtedly one of Australia’s most beautiful spaces.

The new EH Public Bar is situated downstairs, alongside the Espy Kitchen and features a sunken basement area.

This secluded and funky space also offers separate off street entrance and self contained facilities. Now, the historic underground bar has been given new life with stunning wall-to-wall 60s psychedelia inspired imagery and a 'pit' area (further underground) featuring crude russian tattoo artwork from the early 40s.

The interior, designed by Christo Gillard has been fitted with a collection of tall church pews in the band area, and comfortable black couching in the pit, Christo opted to keep the floors’ original tiling; a beautiful display of the bar's age.
