MAKING BREAKBEAT FUN
Musician, artist, illustrator and general creative with an interest in Breakbeat and Electronic music spanning two decades.
I love all aspects of music - I'm an avid fan of Jazz, Dance, Rock and R&B (not the modern shit, proper R&B - Wilson Picket era). I began playing music as a child when I learned to play the piano - but I had a huge amount of frustration, because it takes so long to get to an ability where you can express yourself rather than playing the repetitive sheet music of the lessons.
In the early 90's I had an Amiga and loved 'Tracker' for the ability to quickly knock together sequences of sounds into a palitable sound. I quickly grew out of this and bought a casio CZ1000 and a yamaha sequencer and joined a very shortlived indie band called Marineville - no record deal - played dingy clubs for taxi fare rates. At the same time I filled my weekends DJing at 'Foxes' in Wolverhampton and warming up for big names in big venues around the UK (under the names Martin P & Martin X).
Life took over - as it does - for a number of years I got a proper job (if you call drawing pictures for a living a proper job) and worked my way up the greasy pole to a senior creative position in a major london company. Reality bit me on the arse and I realised that devoting my time to a 'job' wasn't what I wanted for the rest of my life. I became a freelance artist - it gave me enough money to get by, and MORE IMPORTANTLY - - - - TIME
So bringing it right up to date - Over the past 3 years I've been producing various tracks for other artists and myself. I'm DJing various one off's around the UK and that is set to increase dramatically in 2008 with the physical release of my first single.
I'll be swapping tracks round on here every month so please revisit to hear new stuff, and PLEASE leave me comments - it all helps!
